Wow...nice surprise here. Nose: Immediately, that "old book" smell was dominant (I associate this with French wine, but people usually have no idea what I'm talking out). Over time, cherry and raspberry (but restrained) aromas along with some mocha and spice. Before I even told my wife what it was, she thought this was Southern Rhone too. The palate was distinctively California because of the alcohol. Still, there was nice red fruit, and the mouthfeel and concentration of the wine …

Wonderful Grenache, the complete opposite of offerings from many other CA wineries. Medium to full bodied with a surpisingly big fruit and spice filled nose. Lots of fruit--cranberries, rasberries. There was a nice earthiness to the wine. It was delicious now, but would probably last another 4 or 5 years.
