In a different place than the 2010 we had a couple nights ago. Part of it is vintage variation and the outstanding quality of 2010, but also this just isn’t ready. Still modest and primary, tightly wound with red fruits and nicely balanced acidity, tannic finish, but not much complexity. Give it a few more years.

2012 vintage

Medium ruby garnet. Aromas of black mission fig, redcurrant, coffee, stems, a hint of vanillin oak, a whisper of raw meat. Very winding palate from dense peppery dark fruit at the front on a firm gritty tannic base in a crisp acid frame, to sweet back notes of fresh red fruit tinged with black pepper, ending on a very long finish. Carries its 14.5% alcohol with muscular grace.

Over two days. Lovely bouquet of hibiscus, rose hips, sweet and tangy red berries, clay dust, smokehouse, and mineral depth. Impressive integration and balance. The wine touches the entire palate. Holding form. Drink or hold for another three to five years.

Hard to argue with a decanted and slowly tasted magnum of fully resolved components - in a wine that is a CNDP in all but name. Is this even higher points if not for the modest firepower for a Gigondas ? Not sure. But I liked this stuff a great deal as did my wife.

On the nose, lovely fragrances of violets, blackcurrants, jambon cru, and dry undergrowth. Penetrating fruit on the palate with a dense vein of dry tannic crunchy jam and a spicy aromatic back note. Complex happenings across the palate from front to back. Delicious with sous vide mint lamb chops and roasted cauliflower.

Nice burst of rich, woody fruit on opening. Good balance and finish. Soft enough to accompany slices of Jamon but also deep and rich enough for a coq au vin. Good value Gigondas

Drinks exactly like it should - med bodied, nice tannic core still, better than some entry-level chateauneuf but not profound. I like it at this stage - liked it at release 3-4 years ago - probably will like it in another 5, too. But it’s probably at its ceiling right now - perfectly enjoyable on a rainy night!

Dry brambles, cherry tomatoes, purple flowers on the nose. Dry penetrating tannic fruit on the palate with a sweet floating presence of floral aromas, chocolate base, rich fruit-driven tannic finish. Lively, serious, deep and delicious. 50 + 17 + 18 + 9 = 94.

Dark ruby garnet. On the nose a complex melange of blue and black berries, aged steak, dry brush, a hint of violets. Deep charge of dark fruit on the palate, very finely framed with delicate acids, tannic and floral at the back. Long tannic finish. Powerful, moving, sustaining. 50 + 17 + 17 + 9 = 93.

First drank at the communal producer tasting room in Gigondas. Popped and poured, lovely flint and fruit and green pepper and bits of rhubarb and garrigue. Super drinkable.

Bright dark ruby. Leathery nutty aroma, like old walnut shells, wild strawberry, black plum, an ineffable piny note. Tongue coating rich fruit, without being cloying, firm acid frame, long complex finish with significant tannins and an echo of the floral and berry/plum notes. A wonderful extravagant yet balanced wine. 50 + 16 + 17 + 9.

Means the terrace of the Devil. Comes from very high situated vineyard facing northwest, stoney, but not rocks - rocks, from the chalk mother rocks. 300 m. altitude. 40 year old vines, 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, touch of Clariette. Rounded and full, but lifted, with a higher aromatic, and a touch cedary wood on the nose as well.
