Beautiful late harvest Traminer with pronounced and rich flavours, probably undergone ‘passerillage’ to achieve such fruit concentration. Deep golden colour, amber hue. Dense and perfumed aroma of dried fruits such as peaches, yellow plums, mango, pineapple, apricots, dried acacia petals, honey. Palate is intense and dense, pure fragrant elixir with multilayered flavours mirroring aroma, balanced by medium level of acidity, persistently long finish with pleasant touch of bitterness.

I had forgotten I tutored the tasting with this wine in. Anyway now still the same gorgeous gold colour. All present and correct in terms of positive nose, good fruit and balanced acidity. I expected a VT to be a bit more concentrated and sweet and in a way not sure that this is a step up from Prince Abbes. A lovely Gewurztraminer but felt a little short changed.

Mature Alsace VTs & SQNs 2003-1976 with Richard Brazier (Handford Wines, London) : Light caramel notes on the colour show the age of the wine. Nice on the nose albeit shy , sweet fruit, apricots, well evolved and we felt this was passed secondary for a sweet wine. Has good acidity though. Nice wine but a touch one dimensional. 89-90

65 g/l residual sugar. Quite pale greenish-yellow color. Heavily perfumed but otherwise rather understated nose for a Gewurztraminer with sweet-toned aromas of poached pears, heady exotic flowers, some rosewater, a hint of lychee and a touch of wet stones. The wine is sweet, round and moderately full-bodied with somewhat soft and oily mouthfeel and intense flavors of perfumed exotic flowers, honey, slightly dried apricots, some lychee, a little bit of rosewater and a hint of Moroccan spices. The wine is …

I was surprised with this bottle, this was still quite lively and pretty decent.
