Domaine Michel Mallard & Fils Chorey-les-Beaune Les Beaumonts

Last of 3 bottles. Probably the less enjoyable. It lacked some fruits and depth. We could feel the alcohol, which isn’t quite interesting. Hard to know how this will further develop, but if you have any, I’d take the chance to wait n’ see for 2-3 years.

Ripe red fruit, some earth and leather, medium weight, slightly firm finish. Early in the prime window.

Beautiful red translud colour. Nose of red berries, mostly raspberries with a hint of strawberries. Few spices come in to play. Med+ aftertaste, really nice value Burg. I have one left, I’ll let it alone for another 2 years.

Opened an hour before drinking, no decant. Smooth drinking from first taste to last, velvet red fruits, balanced acidity, medium finish.

Quite deep and dark - and fruit backward - on the nose - milk chocolate (probably not from oak, oddly enough), ginger, saffron, mint, tree sap/root beer and bitter herbs on the nose. There IS some fruit on the palate - mostly black cherries - as well as an attractive black pepper note. The fruit gets most dominant toward the end, though the flavors are intense throughout. Very good Sav-L-B. A little bit a fizzle at the outset. PNP, but improved very much show in the glass. So that tells me, could use another 3-5 years - but showing that 2018 is shaping up to be a grand vintage, across the board. Finally a vintage where you can expect results, based on classification in Burg. 90+
