At peak. Slow oxed for an hour then shock decanted which opened it up nicely. Notes of balsamic glaze and berries. Plum, leather on the palate. Very nice

Decanted and drank over two days. Rust colored and opaque from tons of fine, suspended sediment, almost clear at the edges. Very little fruit left, but plenty of structure and big leather and mushroom notes. Good acid. The tannins are still quite strong (though calmer on day 2) and are never going to fully integrate. Really full and vigorous despite its age. Mid-red colour, dark fruit nose (cherries?) and absolutely delicious. Mrs H preferred this to the 2000 Monprivato Barolo which we tasted at the same time, but both wines were absolute belters.

Not as new world/oaked as i was worried about - beautiful nose, but the palate was simple. still a competent barbaresco that went well with food. Wouldnt hold much longer based on the bottle i had.

I have several Pelissero Barbarescos of the late 1990s, and they're just starting to come into their own. The 1997s in particular are just marvellous. This 1999 by comparison is a little brutish and lacking in agility for a Barbaresco. Lovely nose though. It's concentrated and rather tannic, so I think it will calm down a bit in time. I don't think it will approach the balance of the '97s though.

This is a pretty heavy nebbiolo with all the grace of a football player doing ballet, but it's showing some nice development and has the potential to be really impressive if some of that fat can simmer down. Gorgeous nose of old wood, tar, leathers and earthy funk. Lighter-bodied but builds to a fabulous complex finish with notes of iodine, licorice, black earth, eucalyptus, forest floor and minerals. This is an authentic, well-aged Barbaresco that really tastes of the earth and is so delicately and finely complex on the classic, dry finish. Drink soon.

Firm tannins for a Nebbiolo with a decade of aging. Truffles, earth, light tar, dark cherries (very subtle) and light mexican vanilla are in the finish of this wine. The bouquet is a combination of flowers, ripe vines and baking spices. If the fruit were a little less muted, this would be an "extraordinary" wine. It was the potential to cellar through 2015.

Very tight upon opening. After some time in the decanter, it opened to show roses on the palate along with restrained fruit mingled with an earthiness and firm tannins. Delicious now with the right food. For us, it was pasta with ground turkey and mushrooms drizzled with truffle oil straight from Alba.
