Dinner with the wine group (Heirloom Cafe, SF) : Fabulous, golden, fully mature, slightly brioche and oxidative, peach pit, lemon zest; palate is rich, oxidative, lovely and complex; finish is medium length, could be a bit longer but solid. Very lovely champagne, exactly my style. 94

2006 vintage, disgorged 20/10/2012. Light burnished gold. Fine bead. Heady nose of ripe orchard fruits in-particular apple and nectarine and brioche. Very creamy. Superb mid palate-exploding. Long finish. Fantastic bubbly!

Rich apple, smoke and minerals aromas. Fairly rich and creamy, especially given no dosage. Plenty of acidic cut throughout. Good lift in the finish.

Disgorged Nov 15 2013, 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir. Medium golden color with nice stream of fine bubbles; nose is highly aromatic with brioche, yeast, slight underlying minerality, slight bruised apple; palate is full bodied, nice intense mousse, nice rich density throughout with some yeast and brioche notes here as well, but more defined by its fresh high citrus acidity, tangerine, persists through the midpalate; finish is medium-long with citrus acidity. This is a champagne with it all: density, …

Disgorged August 28, 2014, lot LB11. A rich and dense yellow-fruited nose with loads of baked apple. The palate is incredibly sappy and rich, with mouth-watering density, as well as the same baked apple notes. Sappy and leesy (this almost goes through malo), with the pinot noir showing very prominently here. Minerally and fresh with a touch of almond, and a relatively coarse mousse. Very long finish.

Very spicy and lively on the nose with lots of spices, ginger. and orange peel, along with some white florals. Bright with great clarity. The mousse is smooth but strong. Lots of ginger and lemon on the palate and more in the finish. This is clear and cut. Not showing some of the depth and complexity that I look for - I've got 5 more bottles to see if it develops. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, …

Lots of Champagne : This was late in the evening and my palate was tired. Seemed of an oxidative style, but fresh and with a very good mouthfeel.

Saturday Afternoon at Domaine (Domaine Wine Storage - Chicago, IL) : A distinctive, effortless champagne that blends deep orchard fruits, subtle bready notes, and tons of energy. Amazing.

Saturday Fun at Domaine (Chicago, IL) : Disgorged April 7, 2013. Tart stone fruit and green apples on the nose. Lots and lots of them. This follows through on the intense palate that has the same tart green apples, with a nice bit of almond and bread as well. Fantastic concentration and density.

Terrific yeasty, funky aromas. Palate shows what I've come to expect from Savart, brilliant acidity and tight, crisp bubbly. Some tropical fruit notes amidst a wild, unbridled energy. Youthful. Would love to see it in a few years. Need more. Terrific.

Holiday Party (Domaine Wine Storage - Chicago, IL) : Another outstanding bottle. Love its earthy/truffle-y/funky element. Definitely it's this aspect of the wine that distinguishes it from a lot of other champagnes out there. You get all the bright fruit and acidity that you'd expect, but there's an exotic element here that's more rare in the category. Loved it.

An absolute home run! Had that funky, earthy, slightly nutty nose that I just love. Gave this some air, and it built up a bit of a richer, more yeasty tone that was very nice too. Palate was expansive, deep, and complex. Lots of bright citrus notes all with a distinct umami thing going on. A monumental wine.

Nose is marked by coconut cream, sandalwood, fresh pressed granny smith apple juice. slightly resinous on palate revealing oak exposure. dominated by tart and rich acidity on palate, and the most delicate bubbles on the mousse. infanticide to drink now

Champagne BYO including several Savart and Ulysse Collin (Bromma, Stockholm) : Nose with yellow apple, some red apple, a hint of winter apple, some honey, mineral, some modelling clay. After a while some bready notes emerged. The palate is dry and shows mineral, apple, citrus, other yellow and light-coloured fruit, good concentration, high acidity. Rather young, but drinks well now. 90 p

Lieux-Dits Champagnes from Jacquesson vs Selosse (Stockholm) : Bright yellow colour. Nose of ripe yellow fruit - apple, peach - hints of honey, could be a hint of oak?, slightly spicy. With some time in the glass more honey and some flowery notes. More than medium bodied on the palate, rather spicy, yellow fruit, mostly apple, good acidity (but not very high), rather minerally, grapefruit-dominated aftertaste. Tasted blind.
