Dr. Konstantin Frank, Chardonnay, Finger Lakes

This came in a shipment that showed evidence of freezing. Likely damaged. Not enjoyable to consume

A year ago I was rapturous about this. I suspect I was influenced by the setting, outdoors at the winery on a beautiful day , overlooking Keuka Lake. I still think this is very good, with bright acidity and good length and volume. Apple and quince.The oak influence is well judged. A touch bitter on the finish. 12% abv, but not thin or dilute in flavor.

Visit to Dr. Konstantin Frank (Hammondsport, NY) : At the winery. I surprised myself by coming to the conclusion that this was my favorite of ~12 wines, most of which were very good. Dr. Konstantin Frank is of course famous as THE Finger Lakes pioneer, but nevertheless I think the winery is underrated today. The chardonnay grapes are all from Keuka near the winery (so ~950-1200ft elevation, significantly higher than Seneca), with some plantings from the 1960s and 70s, about …
