Spearmint on the nose. A French herb garden on the tongue. Dark chocolate and dry wood on the finish. A little too much smoke for my taste.

Age worthy wine. Dusty on entry and the tannic structure carries through to a long finish. This wine might be at its peak for several more years. Savory and sweet with black fruits and mushrooms. Grippy right out of the bottle. Smooth after an hour or two of air. A great wine...better on the second glass!

Second bottle showed little complexity against wines of a similar price. Sure v smooth and lots of fruit but I think you could the same impact for half the price.

This is a serious wine with a lot of structure and tannins. Upon opening, it was brooding with dark, dark notes, like black licorice dark. It took about 3 hours for the grippy tannins to soften and develop some floral notes. Picked up some lychee on the nose. On the palate, red cherry fruits eventually emerged. Given its makeup of practically every grape varietal, with the majority being Syrah, it is an interesting wine!

A full-on blockbuster treat! Lovely rounded blackberry nose. Rich mouthcoating palate with smooth tannins. Just the ticket for a Friday evening with Mrs H!

Shak below describes it nicely. Garnet with strong vanilla and cherry cream flavours. Iron and pepper add some complexity. Good length and full warming body

Nice Syrah blend with some spice. Think it's at peak drinking window so enjoy now.

Not as perfumed as I thought it would be but very fine tannins that have evolved into a very velvety profile. Given the alcohol percent, this wine didn’t feel very hot. Overall a very good bottle of wine that offers the best of the grapes that are blended.

Bright fruit. A bit more age will mellow out the fruit.

Seemingly more Syrah heavy than other years (not the case) and weighed down by over whelming portions of cassis, smoke, bacon fat and earth. The other varieties are almost non existent here. Decent but lacking the depth and uniqueness of the 16. As time went on this became a cassis bomb. Bummer.

The label says simply "Red Wine," (I didn't much help with that as the color was self-evident) which in this country with its obsession with varietals seems like a bit of a self-confident tease. CellarTracker, if not the label, informs that it is a syrah blend. I like to think I would have guessed as much as it definitely has a Rhone-ish character, lush abundant ripe fruit, some earthiness, grip, palate-coating lushness. I had not realized that we had previously …

Definitely our WOTN (although it was early afternoon) and we pushed the boat out a little to acquire a bottle. Very fragrant nose, grip, earth, smooth texture, dense ripe plum/prune, length. To savour.

In addition to some more typical syrah notes, there is this "composty earth" or "dirty dish rag" note to the nose on this. I'm hoping its just this bottle. Will try again with another bottle tomorrow, but need to get on with the party.

Opened in the bottle for a couple hours. Packs a hefty punch with ultra ripe mixed berries backed by mint, baking spices, cloves, cassis and dried herbs. Still primal, disjointed and hot at this stage. Nonetheless very well made with the meatiness of the Syrah melding nicely with the other blending elements. Enjoyed this more than the 13’s.

I’ve bought Jonata wines for a half-dozen years — mainly excellent vintages, all — but I feel that the quality of the wines has declined over that period. They’re just not that special. I recognize this is a $50 bottle, not a $500 bottle, but there are many far better wines for far less than $50 to buy this one again.

Terrific. Spicy, full bodied, strong finish. Decanted for a couple hours and it needed it. Many bottles remaining to enjoy over the next few years.
