Great bottle. It is golden and rather thick, but what a beautiful taste. It could be that the spectrum of flavors has narrowed but the focus of the wine was intense. Not too sweet: It had a fine balance. In some ways it was greater now for this reason compared to a bottle I opened many (many) years ago. It could be time to drink up since it may be beyond its drinking window, but this was still a beautiful …

Light golden. Decidedly aromatic: wax, nuts, lots of tropical fruit (lychee), slightly oxidative. Mature and ripe on the palate. Good balance between off-dry fruitiness and acidity. Drank this over 4 evenings. Enjoyed the whole ride. Such a pleasure.

I’ve had some wonderful mature pinot gris from ZH but this wasn’t one of them. Opened on the colder side. Scents of mature stone fruits came out as the wine warmed and opened in the glass. Moderate viscosity on the mid palate. Stone fruit dominate the initial taste profile with a finish that tastes like a glue stick to me. Without any remaining acidity this wine is past peak and not my style, though some may find it interesting.

Enjoyed at Kong Hans. The best pinot gris i have ever had. So much botrytis on the nose, tropical fruits, and dried herbs. Semi sweet, perfumed, fat, thyme, and it stayed in the mouth for a really long time, coating it. I was afraid it would be to bitter, but the bitterness was well controlled and went well with the other components

Very good dessert wine. Freshness through citrus fruits balances the sweetness well to keep it from becoming overly sweet. I'm not a big fan of sweet wines and I would have hoped it be a tad dryer, but must still admit I enjoyed this wine a lot. I would not be surprised if someone who is very fond if sweet wines rates it much higher.

Maybe this is now past it’s best and as good as it is the oxidative side has taken over and sort of robs away the wine of its true charm. It’s a good wine just maybe we crossed paths with a bit too late , at least for our style . 90

This showed its mature state, deep gold yellow. Yellow plum, citrus leaning towards mandarin nose with mineral backbone. The palate showed yellow plum and pear, Christmas cake spice, leading to a long finish. All flavours balanced by acidity. You have to like old wines, which I do, and this was right up my alley. (92)

Brought to drink at Oinoscent during afternoon shift The wine was uncorked and tasted after at least 30min. The wine shows deep golden color. The wine shows high intensity in the nose, rosewater first that quickly goes away, ripe to overripe stone fruit, citrus, mandarin, orange peel, fig raisih, sugar coated fruit, lemon curt, pastry, ginger, turmeric. In the palate, the wine shows medium intensity, low to medium acidity, ripe stone fruit, pear, apple, spicy again tin pineapple, nice texture …

Popped and poured. Having never had an Alsatian Pinot Gris, much less an aged one, I did not know what to expect. What I found was a wine with a deep, dark yellow color, without a lot of viscosity. Nose very expressive, with a kind of honeyed fruit at the fore, plus grilled nuts. A hint of acid at the front of the palate, but kind of slightly in dessert wine mode. Sort of a shoe polish flavor/impression. This is …

Dinner at Trelissick Crescent (Trelissick Crescent, Ngaio, Wellington, New Zealand) : Totally mature, or perhaps slightly beyond its peak, but this is fine wine. Medium sweetness levels (70g/l) with an opulent, unctuous but focused palate. Structurally built on its sugars and acid, this is a brilliant expression of Pinot Gris that is all wet stone, sweet apricot, and lifted top notes. I would drink this up, as I don’t see further cellaring potential... stunning with goats cheese, honey and rye …

Tasted at the Domaine Zind-Humbrecht Masterclass hosted by Olivier Humbrecht MW alongside the 2017 and 2016. This vineyard is planted with low-yielding vines 50-60 years old that are often harvested late. The grapes were harvested just as botrytus set in giving a higher sweetness level than normal. High alcohol, (14%) high acid and full bodied with aromas of honey, nuts, dried roses with a rich dense palate of stone fruits, brioche, honey, nuts, spices, ripe pineapple with a very long …

Alsace Rocks! (Chicago, IL) : The nose is succulent and perfumed with balanced tones of vanilla beans, peaches, nectarines, quince, yellow flowers, mineral notes, and spiced pears. There is excellent depth and a way of being that just does it for me. The Full bodied feel is well balanced and poised with tart, medium+ acidity that has some good cut. This is really pretty with an elegant style across the nose and palate that is so poised and sexy.

A powerful and impressive wine. A good mix of fruity and floral qualities; off-dry, but it's not easy to determine how much is residual sugar and how much is fruitiness passing for sweetness. A bruiser at 14.5% ABV, but I found it balanced and food-friendly.

Fine accompaniment for our roast duck legs. Ripe exotic-tinged fruit, pebbly minerality and core acidity all bring this excellent full near-dry wine into perfect balance. Already drinking well, should peak over the next couple of years and perhaps for 10 years from vintage (in my view - others predict a much longer window!). 92+

Medium gold. Apple, compote, rose petal and a hint of botrytis on the clean nose. Thick viscous entry with a slow reveal of spicy acidity pairing off against deep and wide sweetness with ripe quince and tangerine notes coming to the fore on the long, mineral inflected final. This was lovely on its own after a dessert. It's a wine best appreciated on it's own I think. No hurry to finish these, but drinking very well now.

With Pinot Gris generally lower acidity I really like this being on the young side (2013). A lot less oily and full than many PG, despite the 14.5%. Having tasted several other vintages of this cuvée I find this the most balanced so far. Also the most dry (indice 2). Granted, the richness and some aromas that you often find in a good demi-sec PG is lacking, but maybe that's the price you pay for the freshness. With the lower …

This was simply fabulous, in a great place! Like a previous taster, it went very well with the glazed/seasoned salmon it was paired with, featuring enough acidity to cut through the sweetness from the glaze. On the nose, peach, honey, and butterscotch cascade from the glass, which is then met by a lush mouth-feel of super rich tropical fruits and a long, expressive finish featuring the same flavors. While it is indice 5 on the DZH sweetness scale, cellar time …

What a wine, I was thinking this would be sweet, yet there's so much tension and vibrancy. The nose showed a stunning mix of poached apricot, kiwi, ginger, fresh florals, lemon zest and minerals. On the palate, I found silky textures with notable weight, yet a wave of vibrant acidity maintained remarkable freshness. Ripe pear, green mango and peach skins fade to dried white plums on the long, long finish.

Tasted at winery. Medium yellow color with touches of gold. ZH did not make a Clos Jebsal SGN in 2013 so the fruit that went into this wine was declassified SGN fruit. Nose of honey, a mixture of stone and almost tropical fruit, florals and spice. Wow! Similar flavors on the palate with a round and lush mouthfeel balanced by medium+ acidity. Definitely a sweet wine with 68 g/l of RS but balanced well by the acidity. Very impressive.

clean with the color of caramel, the nose gives peach & melon against a backdrop of coarse black pepper. Faded acidity makes it a bit flabby and tough to match with food other than mashed potatoes and steamed cauliflower. Zind Humbrecht 2013 (Domaine Zind Humbrecht) : Well, well. This is a terrific Pinot Gris. Harvested by 15 October, the estate would have liked to have picked even later but the situation did not permit it. I think the relatively low 3.7 pH with its dry aspects - 13.4 per cent alcohol and 12.9 grams of residual sugar (not too high for this Pinot Gris) just make it a gorgeous wine. Flinty and smokey aromatics and Olivier Humbrecht's notes are …

Zind Humbrecht 2013 (Domaine Zind Humbrecht) : A very expressive nose (honied and fruity, rich yellow apricot). But indeed, given the vintage character, the palate is almost surprising by comparison: very brisk acidity and freshness, with excellent focus on the rounded and full bodied palate. Once again, a truly fine Pinot Gris, balanced and coming off dry, although with 14.5% alcohol and 10 grams of residual sugar. The low pH of 3.4 balanced things nicely. Bravo!

3/2015: yellow clear colour. The nose shows immediate and obvious flinty/smoky aromas. It is actually quite intense at this early stage and the volcanic influence is unmistakable. The 7 years since the last bottle have really served this wine well. Straw colored. Nose has complex array of white and stone fruits, oily lemon and slate. Yes, this is rich on the palate but no longer 'thick', not so sweet, and no hint of excess etoh. The acid mineral is in great balance with the complex lengthy fruit. Bright and clear. Similar in color to the '99 - almost a butterscotch accent to the dark gold color. "Brooding" nose with more overt minerality than the '99, with the honeyed aspects more in the background. Great legs. Richer and more unctuous than the '99 on the palate - another powerful wine here (this is Indice 5 according to the label).
