Intense Riesling from old vines crafted by one of the most renowned vigneron families in Australia. Pale lemon colour. Medium+ intensity aroma of apples, peaches, stones, kaffir lime, jasmine, orange peel. Medium body, elegant and mineral with green apple, stone, grapefruit flavours, flinty touches, lifted by vibrant and juicy high acidity.

Fresh and effervescent. High acid, medium body. It had a good level or structure and clarity; but for me Riesling is a workhouse, simple, reliable, and without too much personality. For every day drinking (like pairing with penang curry) there are wines less than half the price that do the job.

Transparent straw color. Ripe stone fruit on the nose along with green herbs and a hint of petrol. Medium-light body, medium-plus acid. Peaches on the front with a hint of sea salt, and an initially bitter mid-palate that mellowed with air. Eventually lemon, key lime, and a stony minerality through the finish.

This is the best way to get a sense of the effect of ageing on a wine, and I just wish I had more vintages 10 yrs apart, that I could just pop out and drink at home! The 1998 was amazing - all of the zingy mineral brightness of the '12 had …
