Champagnes and Rieslings at Cutlery Optional : My contribution, opened in advance in the morning for dinner. Outstanding balance between sweetness and acidity, honeyed citrus fruit with fantastic purity and drive. Obviously still young, but so gulpable now.

This severely needs a decant and should be served colder, but really should be held onto for another decade at least. After a while, opens up to fantastic floral/tropical notes but it definitely needs time. An indication of how great this bottle will be down the road? Who knows.

Riesling Rampage : Subtle floral notes with peach, pear and lime. Sizzling acidity gives it zippy freshness to enable the sweet and sour interplay. Really nice!

Dinner at Osteria Langhe (Chicago, IL) : From half-bottle. This is about as textbook botrytis as it comes. Almost over the top, but not really. The nose is honeyed and exotic with a note that evokes passionfruit, alongside the more obvious floral tones. Despite the sweetness and intensity on the palate, the acidity gives this so much lift. Dinner at Table, Donkey and Stick (Chicago, IL) : #27-18, 8% abv. From half-bottle. Inordinately spicy nose, with an intense floral perfume (but not the sickly kind). This is lifted, spicy, and elegant, and supplemented by a kaleidoscopic array of tart fruits: peaches, apples, and apricots are pretty prominent. The fruits are more of the Midwest persuasion; less citrus, pineapple, and tropical fruits. The palate is obviously sweet, but it doesn't actually feel as sweet as it probably is. That's …

Glass: Zalto Universal Drunk over a week. This is Kellers entry level off-dry Riesling. Fresh, crisp, good, racy and balanced acidity, fresh citrus fruit, lovely mineral notes. Joyful and uncomplicated to drink. At the beginning a bit unbalanced, but with air and time much better. Drink now or within the next 2-3 years. 84-86, PQR is mediocre as you can get much better Kabi’s for the same price tag, but hey, it is KPK :)

Keller Abtserde Study (plus a few more) : Served in Zalto universal. Root / 1024 hPa. A medium straw color with some trapped CO2. The nose hear is incredibly tropical, initially showing a yeasty banana cream pie / banana sweet tart quality. Over time, this blows off into a more complex and inviting pineapple, tangelo, mango, and honeysuckle. Abts E® study (Chicago, IL) : #22-18, 8% abv. A fair bit of sponti on the nose, that gives this a slight banana candy note. Ordinarily, that would seem off-putting, but it's not that bad here. Honeyed, rich, and tropical, this clearly has a high amount of acid that peeks out from all the sweet fruit. Keller Abtserde study : Like this a lot, but it seems painfully young and somewhat of a monolith right now. It's packed with ripe tropical fruit, honey, and plenty of acidity to balance the sweetness - but just comes across somewhat thick and primary at this stage, without the sheer electricity that marked the Spätlese and none of the complexity I expect time will bring. Young wine tasting "2017 - Einzigartig. Zum Lachen und zum Weinen schön" (Weingut Keller, Flörsheim-Dalsheim, Germany) : By far the ripest wine out of the Auslese Quartett but this is a true stunner. Very intense and deep nose with aromas of ripe peach, mango, whipped cream, honey and lemon tart. Incredible drinkable with a high, animating acidity. Very long with some honey in the finish. This could become a true stunner but it needs time.
