This was drinking like liquid silk. Hard for me to describe, but a wonderful nose and just silk in the mouth. B++

EWG Dealer's Choice (A/K/A Bistro, Pasadena, CA) : The cork look very new so this was probably recorked or bottled recently. A whiff of mustiness lead me to think there might be TCA but this seemed to fade and the wine was still very expressive in aroma and flavor. Gregg and Robert immediately thought the same so there may have been something mild. Lots of stone fruit and apple character in an expressive way. Very lean and clean yet substantial …

A few wines with an out of towner (Cafe Bernard, Chicago IL) : nose: excellent depth with balanced and mature tones of blood oranges, honeysuckle, some lanolin, red apples and some bits of petrol and peaches taste: medium bodied with still noticeable medium acidity with mature tones of honeysuckle, red apples, peaches, petrol and a touch of creme brulee on the back end overall: This was just as good as all the other bottles I've had. This is perfectly mature …

Medium gold color. Nose of smoky spice, dry leaves and dry orange peel. Full and off-dry on the palate. Very pretty.

Perhaps this wasn't stored well. It wasn't unpleasant but wasn't very interesting either.

Wonderful wine. Fully mature, medium gold color, with a nice nose and elegant on the palate. Nice finish. great with food and seems like it can hold for a bit but would not take any chances. Best of the Schonborn's I have had. A-

Dinner in Chicago (w/ GV); 2/18/2010-2/19/2010 (Mado, Wicker Park, Chicago, Illinois) : Great comment made about the bleu cheese component on this wine. For me, lots of diesel, mandarin oranges, apricot reduction sauce and burnt rubber. A really great example of what can become of the delicate riseling grape! Wonderful bottle.

Dinner with GaryV and Friends (Mado, chicago IL) : nose: really good nose with tones of honeysuckle, bleu cheese, citrus' tones, petrol, and some bits of rubber. Real good depth, and it really opens up with some good swirling taste: delicious and fat feel on the palate with well balanced and tasty tones of granny smith apples, honeysuckle, bleu cheese, citrus', and bits of rubber. Good medium acidity still accompanies this overall: drinking perfectly right now. Has a bit of …

Wine Dinner at J.R. and Renee's with Wild Boar Chops (Chez J.R. and Renee, San Jose, CA) : Light medium golden color; mature mineral, gooseberry, gunpowder and herbal nose; some initial funkiness on the palate dissipated with air time - mature gooseberry, mineral palate with medium acidity; medium finish; medium finish

nose: takes a little bit to get going, but as it opens up, understated and lovely tones of blue cheese, honey, red apples, white peach tones, and some bits of oranges. excellent depth with good layering taste: excellent medium body with good depth and medium acidity. Lovely and mature tones of blue cheese, oranges, red apples, and drops of honey overall: a beautiful aged riesling. Very well balanced and drinking great. This grew in the glass and some of the …

Pinot Smackdown 2009 (Barrington IL, Wally's house) : nose: took a bit to open up and blossom, but when it did, beautiful and rounded tones of honey, creme brulee, bits of caramel apples, citrus tones, and some orange blossoms taste: great lighter feel with very smooth texture giving off great tones of smoked cheeses, creme brulee, honey, and some bits of mangoes and oranges overall: this is in no danger of going anywhere anytime soon. The color is still relatively …

A nice golden yelllow color. Honey, apples, pears, orange zest, and petrol on the nose. Light to medium body with crisp acidity and a bit of sweetness. Tart apples, peaches, orange, and minerals on the palate. Nice finish with the citrus element turning more toward lime. This wine does not seem to be 25 years old. This is drinking very nicely, but there actually is no hurry on this wine.

Saturday at the Grillmaster's; 8/9/2008-8/11/2008 (Queens) : concentrated dry mangoes, spicy, tinge of herbs, rich and ripe nose leads to a lighter than expected body, ripe apples and pears, good tartness on the finish but its a touch short. the nose is a killer though - can smell it all day.

Saturday Lunch at Fernando's : Light to medium gold color. Powerful and surprising on the nose, complex smoky and spicy notes, real beef jerky aroma (!), with dry mango and creme brulée in the background. Medium to full bodied on the palate, off-dry with good acidity and flavors of dried white fruits. Slightly flat on the finish.

With Mike and friends at Deuce. Incredibly youthful, with excellent balance, but didn't have much depth or complexity. I slightly preferred the 1988 Berg Schlossberg.

Amazingly youthful still. Sometimes I think that this wine is relatively immature as there isn't too much secondary character but perhaps it's just not that great. Little or no tertiary character. Overall very nice and should continue to progress with time.
