Monthly Tasting Group HWS: VDP Grosses Gewachs (By BS) : In the bouquet yellow tropical fruits. On the palate a beautiful and mature wine, full bodied, good minerality, a beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness, tangerine and grapefruit. Beautifully round wine.

Mango and orange, smooth, full bodied, no noticable complexity, strikingly short and inelegant.

Der barocke Typ! Relativ breit, verdammt süß und viel tropische Früchte. Eine dunkle Mineralität. Nicht plump aber etwas mehr Struktur hätte ihm gut getan! Ich denke lieber früher als später trinken.

LOF (@ MvG: Riesling) : Ripe yellow tropical fruits in the bouquet. On the palate a sweet start with ripe yellow fruits like mango and papaya. Some honey. Yellow and green apples. Some minerals as well. Green apple acidity. Good concentration. Later, when served a bit colder, the wine showed more elegance. Concentrated wine. Wait until around 2020 and don’t serve it too warm! 90 for today and probably 91+ in 2019 or 2020.

needs some air to develop, an elegant wine, some calcareous mineralic flavours, ripe apples, midweight body, velvety swallowing, long finish, 87-89+ ?

Kraftfull og mineralsk, noe utvikling, kan gjerne ligge noen år til.

Decanted for nearly two hours before tasting. Medium golden colour. On the nose; spicy baked apples, caramel, honey, citrus fruits and floral perfume. On the palate; viscous and concentrated with a whole lot of Mosel sweetness. Very enjoyable, but bordering off dry – serve with spicy food.

Heavy wine, lacks acidity, yet impressive

Almost golden: big extract; slightly muted nose, relieving som tropical fruits - even hinting at dried fruit; massive body, low acidity, yellow mature apples, noticable sweetness. Did not go well with shrimps and crab.

Early Apr 2011: nearly colorless; exotic fruit bowl: lychee, pear, peach, banana, pineapple and apple aromas/flavors; lush on the palate; not much acid; medium/full body; smooth texture.

I don't know if this is just too young to drink right now, but i feel that this wine was a little bit too much for me. Very concentrated and rich, but unelegant and a little bit too much manipulated for my taste. Excellent, for sure, but not living up to the expectations given by some critics. I've always had a hard time understanding Van Volxem wines and this wine strengthens my view that they might not be meant for …

(right after opening) Lemon and orange peel, flower blossoms, honey, sweet spice and ripe yellow fruit on the delicious nose. Ripe, slightly sweet fruit, honey, wet stones and searing citruslike acidity on the complex, balanced, broad palate. Lingers in the mouth. Delicious.
