Medium ruby/garnet core with fade to the rim. P&P into good glassware over 2 nights. Aromas are gorgeously woodsy and spicy, with old potpouri, cedarwood, dried thyme & sandalwood above layers of sour cherry, stewed rhubarb and gravel. The palate has smooth resolved med+ tannins and med+ acid that stretches the spicy flavours to a long finish, with very good density of flavour. 15% ABV but never feels hot. No sediment, and feels like this is barely into its ideal …

This surprised to the upside given that I reviewed it in 2016 and gave it a 90 with the thought that it might improve just a bit in 5-10 years. In its current state, this is a highly enjoyable, well-evolved Barolo displaying some complex secondary characteristics. Color is light with brown tinges, right on point for 15 years. We drank undecanted but over several hours, so nose evolved from being very soft at first to nice aromas of roses and …

Barolo 2010 horizontal (Smith & Da Luma, Zurich) : Barolo 2010 horizontal of 15 wines, including 1 pirate (all served single-blind). Main observations: 1/ While early days for sure, with rather grainy tannin and bold structures, this appeared already more accessible than neighboring vintages. 2/ The wines fall more or less equally into two buckets: ripe and extracted (at times even cooked or showing early signs of oxidation) and fresh, lofty, cool red berry fruit. 3/ Present and firm, but …

Vin de grande élégance, tout en finesse. Cerise et framboise en ouverture. Puis on dénote: cerise de terre, poivre rose, et un fort bouquet de Romarin sur la finale.

Wonderful savory, full-bodied wine with that continued to evolve in the glass. One of the best wines we have had.

Gaining character over time... This is best bottle of the case that I have. A nice nose of tar and maybe cherry and rose. Great acidity and fine tannins.

Tasted at the Barolo and Barbaresco World Opening Tasting Event in NYC. Traditionally made barolo with a 45 day maceration and aging in Botte. With nearly a decade of age on this it is really starting to blossom. Medium Garnet color, dense flavors with a structure that is just starting to soften. It has earthy truffle, rose perfume, some anise/licorice and a darker fruit profile, more akin to blackberry and black plum than cherry and strawberry.still a decade plus of …

Nice. Well made wine with god balance and some Nebbiolo notes. No panache, seems a bit stripped of personality. No sediment, modern technology? Prefer more traditional producers.

Barolo Ginestra : For me this is a great expression of the Ginestra Terroir. The nose is still quite reduced (as the style of the whole wine), but underneath you have flowers, red berries, slate and some spices. Currently to young, but with great potential I would store it for at least 5 more years and than drink it over 2 more decades.

Double decanted. A lovely wine that is drinking well right now. Typical nose, typical palate with sour cherry. Good balance, tannins have integrated and has some zip left. No sediment at all (filtered??) and none of the passionate flavors that characterize outstanding barolo. This is very good, and nice to drink with a pasta or on its own. Doubt this will improve significantly.

**** Awesome drinking spot right now - so pretty and giving. Completely balanced and a damn near perfect barolo. Not as gritty or ballzy as other ginesra, but thats their style and it serves them well.

I bought this wine because Decanter magazine chose this as the #4 Barolo among the 2010s, an amazing vintage. With this in mind, I was expecting much greater things that it actually delivered. It's a good wine, just not as good as they say. Out of the bottle, surprisingly light, almost like a new world pinot. Even after a two hour decant you really had to coax out the nose, though some nice elements of cedar and roses came out …

Still youthful nose with dark cherries, dark chocolate, tar and mineral. A bit mute. Some oak. But inviting. Fullish, tannic, forceful. Rubber-tar-Barolo. Good concentration and really tough tannic structure. Rich and poweful. Need time.

3o days, the complexity, the Filet of the Ginestra. Spicy, powerful rich, and very savory. Sweet and powerful and massive.

A Barolo Day-2010 Flight and a Few Adolescent Wines (SF Wine Trading Company and Acquerello Restaurant) : Medium center, lighter rim. Pretty aromas of dried strawberry and some flowers. Light, relatively supple (especially compared to the last monster sized wine). Elegant mix of vanilla and red fruit. Just beautifully balanced with wonderful finale of earth, mineral, and tobacco. All in all, my favorite wine of the tasting, even given its position behind several bigger examples of the vintage.

2010 Barolo (San Francisco Wine Trading Company) : Tar, some leather, very deep and penetrating dark fruit on the nose; while it’s tannic and tough, there is very solid underlying structure and intensely deep fruit, yet it seems to keep a light touch; a welcome relief in style after the last few wines; seems very closed up and tight, but some seriously good material underneath; very long and penetrating finish. Excellent.

Has the savory tar thing going already but in a proscuitto kind of way. Sweet and deep on the mid palate, lots of guts and really show cases the Monforte power.
