I thought this one might be a little tired, but not enough that you could not still easily distinguish it's Amador County, Sierra Foothills roots. It also had that focused, quick hitting, kind of grainy old vine taste and feel. The altitude, the soil, the sunlight, and several other factors are present to show us this Zin is distinct from the Coastal counties, and even Lodi. Garnet core with a ruby rim. The nose shows medium intensity youthful aromas of red cherries, blackberries, a bit jammy but not over the top. It also has a mint/eucalyptus note that i like. It's dry, high acid, with flavors confirming the nose: it's minty, and then red fruit. The tannins are medium +, the finish is medium but the alcohol unfortunately spikes up in the finish. Big, bold, strong berry aroma (raspberry and cherry), Black Pepper, full bodied, long finish, true to the varietal, should age well.
