Allowed to breathe in glass 1 hour. Clear inky dark garnet color. Fresh blueberries, sour black cherries and their liqueurs, violets, mint, thyme, leather, crushed gravel. Pleasantly tart and tannic. Seems youthful. A nice alternative to sangiovese for a change of pace.

This bottle was marred by either the brett that can smell like TCA or TCA itself. In either case it was not pleasant. There was never enough fruit expression to combat that or the herby tannins. Given how the other bottles were I have to conclude this one was flawed.

Lovely medium-high to highly aromatic nose of acacia flowers, smoke, and vanilla aromas with subtle spice tones. The dry, medium-full bodied palate is elegantly rich and structured with beautiful, complex aroma replays joined by lemon, honey, and nutty notes caressing the palate. It has very good acidity and excellent length on the complex finish. Many years of development ahead..

So much better than my bottle 2 years ago, which I am certain had some sort of flaw (that fox aroma still makes me gag whenever I remember it) But that was then… this bottle was truly fantastic. Barnyard on the nose, dark fruit and game on the palate, some dried herbs with a hint of stems. A big wine but aging elegantly and loved by all at the table. No rush to drink this but no reason to wait.

If cigars are your thing, this is kinda like drinking a cigar. Smoke and cigar.

Nose with dark cherries and minerality, the palate is something one would expect from a classy Taurasi, on the palate in line with the nose dark cherries complemented by hints of iron and blood, violets, salty sea breeze, gradually emerging complexity, savoury character. Clear presence of tannin and oak waiting to be resolved. Long mouth drying finish. Consumable now after several hours of aeration but probably needs several years to show its best.

This was exceptionally good, once again. Old world elegance at its best. Awesome QPR, too. Decanted for three hrs (air is absolutely needed). On the nose, dried red fruits, sour cherries, some rose petal, mushrooms, dirt, ashes, hints of licorice and violets. On the palate, fine but assertive tannins, great acidity, good minerality, dirt, ashes, and sour cherries. I love Aglianico with age. So underrated!

Love this wine. Wonderful expression of terroir, and especially (volcanic) soil. Very similar to my previous bottles. Same tasting note applies - so I won’t repeat myself. Incredible QPR.

Last of 3 bottles. 93+ on opening but fruit oxidized with exposure to air (decanted for 2 hours). Didn't note color. Tobacco, black cherry and smoke/mesquite. On palate, black cherry, sour cherry and tobacco - as noted to lead in, with airtime the fruit went from fresh to dried out. Full tannins, medim+ acidity, medium+ body and long finish. 91 once it got some air. Excellent QPR - PNP if you open (odd for an Aglianico but that worked with …

Decanted for 2 hours and paired with grilled pork tenderloin. Consistent with note from 2/2019. I really enjoyed this and the fruit was still going strong with a cigar ash/smokey note on the nose. The quality of this wine really showed as I would have expected more oxidation of the fruit at this age but the wine tasted relatively young. 93+/- "Medium red color with slight brownish tint and fair change from rim (clear) to center. On nose, cigar ash, …

This was so, so good. Glorious with any meaty dish. (Took to Cotogna). Decanted for 4 hrs. Same tasting note as that for my previous bottle applies. Phenomenal QPR. Should try to buy more.

I had this bottle a few months ago and really enjoyed it. Opened another one but didn’t have time for a long decant and found it very tight, herbal, hard to drink. So left it overnight and tried again on day 2 and in addition to the strong herbal flavors (which are not unpleasant in a balanced wine) there was an overwhelming wet fox/wet mouse smell that I hadn’t detected the night before. I am very tolerant of Brett/barnyard and …

Decanted 3 hrs. Good showing for this 13 year old Taurasi, chock full of the trademark cherry and iron traits I associate with Aglianico. As the tannins are still fairly prominent, I can only imagine what this tasted like young, had to be beast for sure. A little polish and gloss revela some nee oak was used, but its well integrated. All in all a very good wine and an even better value from JJ buckley for around $25 I …

Beautiful dark color, very herbal the nose —almost garrigue-like—basil and other herb components. Herbs with cherry on the palate. Integrated tannins and alcohol and drinking beautifully with food and without. Several hours decant

Very enjoyable. Some bricking, good legs. Aroma of red fruit, leather, basil, and forest floor. Tart cherry, leather, bitter herb, and pepper on the palate, with a long finish. Nice mouthfeel, stout tannin, slightly chalky. Better with an hour decant.

Classy stuff. Iron filings with some violets and ripe, rustic fruits. Most notable is a consistent mineral sense. The fruit is wrapped around a strong acid core. It's shed most of it's fat and feels lean for the most part. A nice late grip with some green streaks. This seems to be in a nice window but there is fruit density to burn. Good now and probably still good in ten years. Terrific. Punches above it's weight.

Purchased recently from JJ Buckley. As prior tasters noted, this needed a decant to shine but with 1-2 hours of air it was fine. Medium red color with slight brownish tint and fair change from rim (clear) to center. On nose, cigar ash, cherry, dried cherry, tar and nice herbal note (spices, not green pepper). On palate, full body, medium+ acidity, medium tannins and long finish. Flavor profile similar to the nose. I loved this. 93+/-

On the nose, an explosion of dried red fruits, sour cherries, some rose petal, mushrooms, dirt, hints of licorice and violets. Splash decanted on a whim, just got 4 bottles and was dying to try one w/ dinner, each glass improved so totally agree with the longish decant (if possible) recommended in a couple of the TN's below. A great QPR wine and highly recommend this. Quintessential old world wine and at this stage of development a truly mature aglianico but not a typical Italian wine - minimal acidity or brightness and tannins very well integrated and soft. Very dark purple, …

Old world elegance, modern-style wine lovers need not apply. Opened 60 minutes before tasting; smelled almost off for the first 15 minutes but opened up well. Consistent with previous note from nine months ago, this is drinking beautifully right now. Dark nose of black cherry, licorice, leather. On the palate, some tart red fruit up front, but darkness is carrying the day, black plum, leather, spice. Medium-to-long finish, with rakish, rustic tannins. The excellence of this wine would be lost …

Has an old wine smell. Tannins are quite evident. Fruit is diminished but acid is present. Seems a bit unbalanced but I might have a different opinion if it was had with a fattier/more robust dinner but it did not stand up to the pasta carbonara. Wife disagrees and would rate it higher.

Nose - red cherry, dried flowers tobacco and tar, secondary notes beginning to show Palate - tannins still up front, good balance and acid, dried red cherry, fresh tobacco and ash. Very pleasant aglianico and starting to drink well with time. Drank over 4 days and day 4 was still in tact - impressive durability.

Excellent expression of aglianico, excellent expression of Taurasi, surely close to peak. Opened 60 minutes before tasting. Still looks young in the glass, not even a hint of bricking over a decade on. Old world complexity on the nose, barnyard, blackberry, caramel, wildflower. Dark, but buoyant on the palate, black plum, wild strawberry, caramel, spice. Medium finish, perfectly resolved tannins, bitter but balanced. Deep and soulful, deeply food friendly, but strong enough to stand on its own. Stellar value.
