An oldy but goodie. Lingering gaminess of mourvedre; soft, late-summer blackberries. Shows the rusticity of Tablas Creek's early days. Satisfying by its lonesome, and still showing well. Drink now.

Two bottles down and third consigned to cooking. Nose is OK, rather wild as others have noted, but I don't mind. Palate full of metal and alcohol to me, same as the first time.

Deep red. Earthy raspberry, flowers and pepper nose. A bit of sweetness. Nice balanced finish. I really liked this wine, the best wine I've had from Tablas Creek.

Tablas Creek / Denner / Hoage; 6/20/2009-6/21/2009 (Templeton, CA) : Slightly metallic/bretty nose, quite complex on the palate, drinking easily with finally something that's not only all fruit all the time - very old world in style. ($32.50) (tasted again on 25/06/2009 - no bretty element this time, lost quite a lot of complexity in the process and the sweet fruit reared its ugly head - felt like a Spanish Rhone blend and this is not a compliment).

From the wine club shipment. Nose has some dark fruit, a bit of alcohol, and cedary, earthy notes underneath. Moderate body, dark fruit balaced by good acid levels. A bit of alcohol evident along with moderate astringency on the sides of the tongue from tannins. I get the earthy, dusty leaves others mention. Enjoyable wine after dinner at a fair price.

Good, not great. Not sure I like the combination of flavors and high acidity. Perhaps it needs more time to mellow out. Gives one the sense of red fruits that are not quite ripe, with a backdrop of dusty leaves

There was a fair bit of sediment. Decanted, left to breath for 90 minutes, and served at 13°C (55°F). Smoky dark fruits on the nose, wafting with alcohol fumes. Bright cherry and raspberry flavors lead the palate, reminiscent of pinot noir, followed by dried leaves and a warm finish. Quite enjoyable despite the alcohol being out of balance. Decent...Nose of tart cherry and spice. Moderate body. Palate is simlar to a moderately priced Cote du Rhone. Finish is cedar and cherry. Okay, but nothing to go nuts over.

Very nice rich purple hue, with just a touch of that classic brett nose on opening, that did blow off with time to a more austere spiceyness backed by dark fruit. Wonderful fruit palate that had a full rounded texture and a smooth grip, but an abrupt finish...still a very nice wine that paired well with a snack of spicey venison summer sausage.

Popped the cork and out came a whiff of Grenache! Yes, it is 26% Grenache. Nice fruit with a spicy finish. As the bottle warmed to room temperature the Syrah came forward. This was consumed with sausage and shrimp in a tomato sauce finished with a touch of cream over pasta. The wine stood up to the tomato sauce quite well.

Heritage: Dark gold; litely waxey, low a’s, a bit flabby, slight bitter like a roussanne; hint of unfiltered dark honey--long fin (good a’s?).
