This had a long time on the lees (~15 years) a you could tell with rich brioche elements. There was quite a bit of lemon bar, also almond cookies, bruised pear and apple, underlying nuttiness. However I did find myself wishing it had more acidity to back up the end of the drink.

Opened by Powell when he came to town. Disgorged July 2025. 3g/l dosage. Sourced from 100 year old vines in the Chétillons lieu-dit in Mesnil. Served a little warm or I would have scored this higher. Medium yellow color. This had a very nice depth and structure to it. The bead was aggressive at first. Of the six 2008 Moncuit wines I have had, this was my 2nd favorite after the 2008 Chetillons. Creamy profile with brioche and almond paste. …

I have been so hesitant to post this note. Champagne is not my forte, but I’m trying. Okay, here goes. I found it to be a honeyed-yellow color. Nose of lemony-hoisin notes, with pretty lemon toasty stuff. Palate of strong aged apple core. Like granny-smith apple core that’s browned a bit. The lemon still comes through, and then some toasted cashews. I’m not very good at champagne judging, and I’ve never tasted these notes before. It was almost funky. But, …

Showed similarly to last time - it’s clearly a BdB with more lemon zest and green apple flesh. Disgorged 2024 after 15 years on the lees and what a lovely mouthfeel as a result.

What a powerful, great BdB, 9897 bottles filled. 5 g dosage, Date of degorgement 2.9.24. The bouquet has a potpourri of citrus fruits leaning more on the orange, mandarine side with some grapefruit. The long aging on the lees (15 years) add some spice, hazelnuts and nice buttery, brioche notes. On the palate it's quite rich with a creamy but also fresh mouthfeel. It has a very long finish and lingers around for quite some time. It's hard to resist …

Pale yellow color, abundant medium bead. Aromas of green apple, lemon, and a slight biscuit note. Palate has signature Mesnil biscuity-ness with lemon and tarte tatin fruit profile that leads into a mineral-driven medium finish. Needs some more time on the cork to flesh out but expect it to be great in another 5 years. Drink or hold.

Rayas Dinner (Chicago, IL) : The fruit raw materials have a lot to like here in their purity and brightness, yet this is a lean and emaciated Champagne to my palate that could have benefited greatly from more dosage.

Young and fresh but really good. Great acidity along with lots of complexity being fruit, salinity, brioche. Can easily taste the Chardonnay fruit. Had it alongside the Extra-Brut 2008 P. Moncuit which of course is way more evolved and mature. But also less than half price of course. Nov. 2024 degorged.

Excellent - notes of brioche, apricot, dried pineapple, candied lemon peel. Absolutely a pleasure

Champagne Bookclub (served blind)--Astrid (King's Fish House in Laguna Niguel, CA) : Served blind. February 2024 disgorgement. Initially this has a pounded rock/chalk nose with a citrusy signature, along with honeysuckle. Started off stern and leesy, then lemony with mandarin orange. Remained zesty and intense even with a few hours of air. This was my favorite on the table last night of the 8 wines.

"Pure Pinot" Champagne Bookclub (hosted @ King's) : 100% Chard from ~100-year old vines in Chetillons. dosage 5g/L. disg 02/05/2024. Full malo. I love 2008 vintage in champagne, and this is no exception despite being BdB. Ripe apple, sea minerals and salinity, evolving to sweet lemon and white flower. Nice finish. The dosage is perfect in this for me. I have more bottles, so I'm curious to see how/whether this evolves.

4th Saturday Brown Bagger: Mediterranean (J&S’s) : Lingering mousse with a medium bead. Notes of marshmallow, caramel apple, baked pear and wet dough. Pear, apple, cashew and honeycomb flavors with hints of lemon curd in the finish. This bottle was more advanced than the last one and felt ready to go.

Opened up tight but straw yellow color with apple, lemons, and roasted nuts. Palate of brioche and yeast, with nice nutty tones and a long vervy finish.

Le Mans of 2008 Champagne magnums; 5/9/2025-5/10/2025 (Chicago, IL) : I. Definitely not for me; I was really surprised even to learn that this wasn't made from meunier given how earthy/mushroomy/mulchy it was on the nose. The palate didn't help as it didn't seem to have sufficient weight and complexity to hide that really funky profile. (88) II. Another candidate for most improved wine of the tasting thus far, those browning autumnal notes, while still present, have really dialled down. …

From old vines in les chetillons. Pronounced clotted cream fudge on the nose (if you’ve ever had it, you’ll immediately identify it). Not a tonne of fruit, some lemon zest, lemon meringue pie going on. This is really good but it needs time. Maybe even 5+ years. Acidity is very high. This was better out of burgundy stems and with plenty of air. 93-94.

Friday Group Brown Bag Tasting (EBCC) : Made from the house’s 100-tear old vines in Les Chetillons. An extra brut, at 5 g/L dosage in Oct 2024. Light color. Medium mousse. Notes of lemon and apple with a subtle hint of toast. The palate follows the bouquet. Fine bead with crisp, bright acidity. Delightful- but needs some time in the cellar…from 2030+.

Pale lemon with a nose of wet stone Delicious mouthful of ripe citrus, quince and lemons sherbet. Midpalate of date syrup (more than I’d have expected at this dosage) with a long finish that recedes to some subtle salinity. All carried along on a tide of a fine mousse. Delicious.

Color: wheat and perfectly transparent. Nose of hay and white flowers. Clear rich mouth of mature fruit. Dry apricot maybe but not that sweet, White peaches? Rich, harmonious. It's a champagne that lasts for minutes in my mouth. Ready to drink and I would expect it to last a long time. My rating is conservative...
