Fontanadredda day 😍 First the 1982 Barolo Riserva and than this one. (Plopping order.) From a drinking order perspective, this was for lunch and the '82 for dinner. This wine acted more as a white wine as it's rather thin and acidic with only puny tannic remains. It worked well with the lighter dishes and didn't quite come out on top of the main dish (pork). Recent one off purchase from the wine clearinghouse ($69.99), which supposedly received it recently from the producer's cellar. If any wine seemed likely to have bad mojo before it hit the glass, this was it: a 1997 from this seller and producer (different bottling, but still . . .) that I had a few weeks ago seemed promising out of the bottle, then almost immediately turned inert (the seller graciously refunded my purchase price), and the corkscrew got about halfway …

Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of earth, mushrooms, tea leaves, slight soy sauce, plums. Developed. On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), integrated high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of spice, mushrooms, savoury earth, tea leaves, dark plums.
