Deep dark red color. Bright nose, blackcurrant/blackberry candy. Wet pine branches and soil. Medium body, surprisingly lively, well balanced and solid finish. Some eukalyptus elements on both the nose and palate that becomes more dominant with some air. Very interesting. Yet another Truchard wine that has kept very well in the cellar.

P n P. Lots of sed. In your face nose of flowers, red n blue fruits. Even though it was a new worldean Syrah, very yummy n food friendly. Some life left here. Has some time ahead. Soft mouthfeel.

Very nice syrah characteristics, with dark leather and bacon in the nose. Not as much rubber hose as I'd like (that's what she said), but delightful nonetheless.

Good solid wine that was a bit heavy on the tongue. Not impressive, but not unimpressive either.

Straightforward and fruit driven. Opaque ruby color. Very aromatic, with blackcurrants, plums, savory and root beer notes, and a touch of vanilla; rich, pure fruit flavors, with a touch of leather or meat, and well-integrated tannins that build through the finish; decent fruity finish, ending with black cherries and plums. Didn't pick up the pepper and spices that I was expecting.

We keep going back to this one over and over again. Right in its sweet spot. Excellent all around syrah. Glad we have a few more bottles.

Blackberry, spice and pepper on the nose. Blackberry, smoke and spice on a long powerful finish. A delicious wine. Ripe fruit with spice, smoke and berry flavours.

Drinking very well now. Lots of black and blue fruits with freshly-turned earth on the nose. I am quite impressed with the old world funkiness that this is bringing on now, even more so than I remember - a nice compliment to a smooth, rich, fruity syrah on the tongue. Doing a short vertical soon, so looking forward to its showing against the earlier years.

Decanted for an hour in view of some of the published ratings and found the wine to have big fruit and some black pepper and tannins were smoother than expected. I enjoy Truchard wines and while this is not as nice as their Cabs, it went well with dinner.

nice round Syrah as others have said; smokey nose and palate of wet leather, bacon, bit of red pepper; full fruit nicely rounded and balanced tannins; not a world stopper

Clean medium red color. The nose opens with cool blackberries, then earthly and a hint of a gamey component. The taste opens light then gets thicker on the palate. Clean, balanced and with a touch of spices on the finish

I usually like the wines from Truchard very much, but this Syrah fall quite short of impressing. Heavy fruit and heavy alcohol. Hot, overdriven by black pepper aromas, and a bit disjointed. It improves with aeration, but it fails to impress.

Plums, vanilla, blackberry, pepper, maybe olives, too? Had this as part of a vinovolo Blockbuster Red flight. Best of the three. Nice finish.

A wonderful Syrah, with strong, dark fruits, no burn, and a nice finish. Almost too quaffable, but at a nice price point.

Rich and deep, this still manages to be a finesse wine, with silky flavors of smoky meat, roasted coffee beans and oak spice, medium bodied, and fine, but well polished tannins.

Blueish red Aroma is characterised by forrest fruits and some pepper Full-bodied and over extracted, too much of everything. Some freshness (camphor) in the mid palate. Decent length, though.

Serious Syrah flight (Vino Volo, Newark airport) : Definitely a Cali with plenty of new world fruit, but it's nicely balanced by chocolate and smoked meats. The fruit wasn't nearly as prominent on the palate, but the wine was still quite delicious and drinking nicely now. A touch of harshness at the back end kept it from being better.

Decanted for ~1.5hr. Dark purple almost opaque in color. Nose with nice dark deep earth and moss, green peppers,blue/black berries, a hint of tar and black licorice. Palate is brighter with blackberry initially followed by tar, earth, a bit of bacon in the midpalate and finishing with more earth and fruit on a grippy moderately tannic finish. Good length. Wine opened up more as the night went along. 14.3% ABV. Very good QPR for $28.

Nose of anise, black cherry, leather, pepper, and a touch of spearmint. Black cherry, a little green pepper, and floral on the palate. Lively acidity, solid tannins. 88/89

Not as impressive as the last bottle. Still, quite a nice drinking wine. Had with vegetable lasagne. Mixed well with the cheese and tomato sauce. Nice fruit, but not quite as much depth as previous bottle, and not as much secondary flavor. Decent QPR, so I can't complain...

Very impressive Syrah, especially following the 2004 Sequel. Nice and peppery, with black raspberry fruit and earthiness.

No detailed notes, but I recall the nose and palate of this wine both having red and green peppers, as may be expected from a cali syrah, but a bit much for me. Also, I recall unbalanced and noticable alcohol on the nose, palate, and through the finish, which was a bit hot. Servicable, but not great.

Tasted at Brenners - recommendation of John Stokes who knows the brother (neighbor of his ranch in South Texas) of the winemaker. Very nice open syrah.

Dark purple. Bottle had been cellared and the side that had been down showed heavy sediment. The nose was old shoe leather and game. Somewhat harsh tannins that predominated the fruit.
