Huuuuuge nose of cigar box, characoal, very dark fruit… Loads of integrated tannin, black dark fruit, still looks like a 15 years old wine, length of 30 sec.

Good level bottle well into the neck but cork was dry and broke up. I've had this wine several times over a 35 year period. In 1990 'excellent but austere'. That's the character of a highly tannic vintage that was initially feted as a great vintage. Most wines were disappointing though but HB stood out as one of the very best. In 1997 a bottle at Le Gavroche HB dinner which had come from the Chateau. Rated 99 'fabulously complex …

Rustic and slightly high-toned with a slightly coarse texture compared to the other vintages. Yet the wine shows a wonderful complexity on the finish with very expressive notes of cigar smoke, road tar and warm, sweet, red earth. A very good bottle of this!

Several additional bottles from the US cellar this past week. This is past it's very best years (at least in these 750s we had this week) but still enjoyable. B+/A-

Haut Brion vs La Mission Dinner (Singapore) : Corry's bottle for Yu Mei. Clearly more developed color than the 64 next to it with a wide transparent rim and a fading core. Sous bois, lean dark fruit. Very linear and strict. Lacked the depth and complexity of the 64. Have had quite a few 75 left bank Bdx over the years and while the structure of many wines seemed promising 10 years ago, I find the 75s simply lacking in …

HB and LMHB night : Similar to the '64 this was showing very youthfully, would have guessed a classic vintage like '88 if blinded. Superb restraint with crystalline dark red fruit, the most mineral of the HBs tonight, acidity gave the wine lots of freshness. Very elegant and aristocratic, preferred this over the '64 at first but this faded slightly with air.

HB vs LMHB night. Fairly similar with previous bottles, firm but not drying tannins, good acidity and freshness, 2nd serving wasn’t as good as first serving. Very strong showing but not exceptional as some vintages of HB could be.

Drank along 1968 Haut Brion and 1961 Cos d'Estournel. The 1975 HB was far away the most mature of this trio. Fully mature with a brown color profile. In full tertiary development with lots of funky mushroom and earthy notes. Still enjoyable and interesting to see how it's developed.

RIP, Kris Kristofferson. A multi-talented individual, soldier, scholar, singer, poet, songwriter, and actor. One of my older brothers introduced his songs to me in 1975, first song I ever exposed to was “Help Me Make It Through the Night” and my favorite has always been “Sunday Morning Coming Down” by both Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson. Funny coincidence that I have this song on repeat mode in the car for a few months recently, irritated the shit out of wife …

A little dry and mainly tertiary but still alive. Red fruits, elegant. Good length and complex. Drink up.

Beautiful - ethereal. Didn’t need more than 30min of air. Not much weight left in it, so I recommend drinking soon

Young for its age. Nose of eucalyptus, tobacco, cedar. Very elegant, fruit compote, blackcurrant, figs and red stone fruit. Wonderful.

Such a pleasure. At 48 yrs still delivering a fulsome fruit and mineral package. An elegant sleeve of flavors rather than a hammer. Some mineral, hay, and fruits -cassis, pomegranate, blackberry. Delighted to find such vibrancy after this many years.

Clean and elegant nose. Finished with heavy burnt tobacco notes so typical of Haut Brion. Tough tannins of the vintage mostly soften, left with just a tad of dryness at backend. Good acidity and lively. No sign of fading over 2 hours lunch, drinking well but no hurry, should last for the next 5 to 10 years.

(Mostly) Bordeaux 1975 : Completely different to the Haut Brion 1976 tasted next to it; lots of bacon, smoke and meat here, broody and with huge tension, more depth as well than the 76, the finish is a leather galore. The fruit (mostly cassis) is absolutely beautiful here. A huge wine, still incredible youthful. Very impressive. 18.5/20

Fully mature, even a bit on the downside, this wine is brick and red clay in color, with a bit of a leafy note to the dried plum and cedar notes that predominate. The structure has broken down a bit and no doubt will continue to do so. Time to drink up.

A mature HB and holding up very well. Contrast to earlier note this has been cellared consistently from mid 90's. Still seems fresh but fully formed, no rough edges at all. Nice aromas of dark berries, hay, earth and light spice. Paired with rack of lamb and grilled veal chop.

The wine was still fresh but it has evolved to a secondary stage with faded fruit, leaf and earth. Over the peak but still enjoyable.

Not most characteristic of Graves, but some leather and dark fruit with a lot of woody notes. Good balance. 91-92
