From half bottle cellared since release. This wine was heavily oaked when young; since then, the oak has integrated. There may be some VA (I'm relatively insensitive to VA), but if so, I don't find it bothersome. The wine has a silky texture with spiced red fruits. There are Burgundian influences here, especially in the silky texture, but overall, this is still a Pinot from Germany, not a Burgundy look-alike (not bad). Strong smell of burnt rubber, very unripe, oversoured and overoaked with hardly any fruit or pinot elegance at all. Avoid.

Disappointing fritz keller, had from the same edition a pleasant riesling, but this pinot noir lacked body and fruit, too acid

Wein mit ansprechender Säure roter Johannisbeeren und mittlerem Körper. Etwas alkoholisch und unterschwellig animalisch mit Luft.

Lunch by Patrick Kimpel * with "Die besten deutschen Spätburgunder" (Rheingau Gourmet & Wine Festival Hattenheim, Germany) : A good, competent Spätburgunder, nice fruit, weight and balance but no great length or definition.
