Fine grained tannins and less mono-dimensional than is sometimes the case for Tannat. Can go another 4-5 years.

PnP. Maybe this grape is just not my wheelhouse. I liked it, but I did not love it. Other tasters have suggested it still needs more time. I wondered if it might be on the downhill slope from its prime. Whatever the case, it was okay, but I would not seek it out again.

This grape takes a long time to come around on its own. (Great blending wine with Cab.) This is now soft enough to drink, but clearly has some legs left.

Quite pretty. Of course this needed some air. Tart fruit and leather interchanged over the course of 2 days. Tablas says it can hold another 10 years which I guess it can but why wait. At 10 years old I would say 95% of CA red wines are ready to go. I enjoy mature wine but find them unfriendly with food as they become too delicate and nuanced. So- drink now with a steak or like I did with braised …

Dark ripe blackberry fruit. Drinking beautifully now with nicely balanced body and finish. Big enough to stand up to a mesquite smoked Santa Maria tri-tip dinner.

I had a bottle earlier this year that was rather one dimensional, but this bottle was decanted for 3 hours, and that made all the difference in the world. Lesion is to decant ANY Tannat for 2-3 hours. I think it really makes it much more complex.

Notes from 2 days of tasting. Nose was dark and dusty, with noticeable mineral and blackberry, along with a slight medicinal touch (which was gone on day two). Color was dark purplish ruby, and the body was medium/full. Very flavorful on the palate, with sour cherry and blueberries predominant. The tannins were front and center which gave it a slight astringency, but not overly so. It’s pretty brawny, but also very appealing. It did have a good bit of sediment, …

This was a nice wine, better than the 2007 I had recently. Good dark fruit, the tannins that can be harsh in this varietal have definitely softened. If you have 2010 of this wine, drink it. I have one left and will drink up.

I had this earlier this month and liked it so much I decided to have more. Just an utterly delicious wine, immediately appealing on the palate, luscious favors, outstanding staying power. I think it the best everyday wine in the TCV lineup. It reminds me of my favorite red wine in the 1970s, Amador County Zin, unusual in that it had rich aromas, tannin, body and a sturdy, fresh, red-fruitedness that lasted a decade. This Tannat may go out, unperturbed …

Black cherry, cherry pipe tobacco, meaty, mouth-coating sweet tannins, and herbs de Provence. Tannat is responsible for the wines of Madiran in France and is the main red grape of Uruguay, where it can be a tad syrupy. Among the weightier reds of Tablas Creek but impeccably balanced and more elegant than the rustic wines of Madiran I've drunk, which can be bitter as well as astringent. Still youthful in appearance. If it had more complexity it would be a …

I was planning on a Grenache with the cassoulet, but pivoted to this at the last minute and it was a nice choice. I think Tablas takes some steps to temper the tannins a bit to make this more approachable young-ish, and it works, retaining varietal character even if the rustic edges are shaved off. Beautiful, pure deep, dark garnet color. Intense red forest berry and cassis , this is very fruit-centered, but not just a fruit bomb, with just …

A savory bouquet of prime rib (end cut) and herbs that melds into a palate balanced by beef blood and dark fruits. A long, satisfying finish. The tannins have receded almost completely, indicating this may be in its drink-me phase. Beautifully executed. Drink now to 2025. Worth Seeking Out.

N: Fairly fragrant cherries with notes of vanilla, poss choc, with pyrazines way beneath? Poss lacking endurance? P: Med body; NICE, almost swtish frt met by some astringent pucker which DOES eventually lose the majority of its bite as it transitions into a LONG, POSS very, VERY slightly bitterish (or at least from time to time) finish. For now (with flavorful meats), though really NEEDS/deserves through '20, then making its 10th. NICELY done, & when guessing blindly I'd pegged it …

Paired with flat iron steak and gouda. I agree with recent comments, this is ready now. Decanted and drank through two hours. No sediment, no observed bricking. Blueberry, raspberry, and some spices on the nose. Similar palate, but half way through some secondary notes showed up including cocoa, graphite, something slightly herbal, and the raspberry became more pronounced. Tannins are there, but I think they have integrated well. They didn't require too much fatty food.

This is ready! I liked this much more than a couple previous bottles. Paired great with cassoulet with duck legs, sausages, and pork shoulder. This is a complete package now. Bright red berry nose, dusty, fine tannins, full bodied with ripe fruit but not "fruity" and not too dense, touches of exotic spice. Alludes to mulled wine, so if you can get some cold weather, a fireplace, and a hearty meal, you're ready. Aside - there was something that was …

The 2014 Tannat is fresh yet powerful on the nose, with savory elements of thyme blossom and tobacco over top of red raspberry, candied orange peel and meat drippings. On the palate, the wine shows both Tannat’s power and a friendliness that may surprise those more familiar with its Old World renditions, with tangy, meaty, loamy notes over raspberries and spice.

Good, quite good as a BBQ wine as I think it would have made a great match with tri tip in place of a more elegantly-styled, medium-bodied Zin. This is quite soft and round, a bit grapey and juicey, bursting with bright red fruits and a touch of earth, but I wish it had more "grip" and breadth; it's a bit straight-forward. Will let the other one lay down 2-3 more years to see what happens unless CT TN's show …

We received this bottle from Tablas Creek’s (T.C.) wine club in September, 2012. They usually use Tannat in their red blends but occasionally release a single-varietal bottling of this usually big, bold, complex, delicious red varietal. The last vintage we received of this single-varietal bottle was the 2006 vintage, which I gave a score of 92/100. This wine pours almost black and has a gorgeous bouquet of dark fruits, minerals, earthiness (slightly flinty and chalky), and dried herbs. I loved …

Very dark with a beautiful meniscus. Beautifully evolved and in a delicious drinking window. Needs at least two hours of air. This wine has gone from being an ungainly fruity blackness to something quite sexy after three years in my cellar. Aromatic cassis, pencil lead, and campfire with an exotic patina of orange peel, roasted bone marrow, bay leaf, and black (large) cardamom. Sensuous and plush mid palate, with cherry pipe tobacco. The finish lingers with spice and pronounced but …
