Dark ruby. Nose of fulsome violets, sharp plum scents, dark berry, and sea air. Layers of black cherry, raspberry, iodine, subtle tea notes, and brier on the satin-textured palate. Lively acidity and softened tannin. Long finish of dark pure fruit, warm earth, iron flecks, and stony brambles. So good. This is just getting started.

This was an excellent middle-aged Syrah. Plenty of fruit, lots of earth, smoke, pepper, olive, and good stuff. Mostly fine tannin.

Darker translucent ruby. Delicate but steely violets cut with brambly raspberry and iron granules on the nose. Layers of black cherry, raspberry, brier, iron filings, and iodine on the satiny palate. Firm tannin and brisk acidity leading to a long finish of red fruit, deep soil, and iron ore. Young, concentrated, seriously potent wine.

I thought this was hard as nails when tasted at release, and cellar time has been kind to this wine. Floral hints deceive you into thinking this will be on the elegant side, but the palate is firm, dense, and powerful. A lot of flavors to appreciate, but the structure is still front-and-center, so I expect this will be better in another 5+ years. 89-90 point potential.

BODY: medium-full bodied. TASTE: cedar; dark ripe fruits, but not overblown; big; hints of pyrazine and something earthy; medium-low acidity; 14.8% alc. is well-masked by the fruit. Best to Drink Now and over the next few years. Gut impression score: 89 - 90.

I thought I was opening a different cuvee, but this was my 2nd Pisoni 2006 of the week. Shokingly identical to the previous bottle.

Subdued red and blue fruit with as much earth. Good weight and balance with good+ length, finishing with more earth and spice. Drink over the next few years.

Last bottle and still a gorgeous bottle of wine. Translucent but still some robust red color and that interplay between elegance and power carries through to the nose and palate. Sandalwood, rose petals and dark cherry on a restrained nose. Lovely texture and acid with a solid core of sweet dark cherry fruit. Still has some years left but I am not at all sorry I am drinking it tonight as it is in a beautiful spot.

Echoing prior notes, this drank beautifully, with the pepper and sweet blackberry palate in perfect balance. The only reason for posting a note again is that the wine seemed to lose power and focus after thirty minutes in the glass, suggesting that this has decidedly moved from hold to drink.

This is a stunning bottle of wine in a stunning place. Lovely light cherry red translucent color. Sour cherries, roses and lovely underbrush on an elegant and expressive nose. Great mix of spicy peper, acidity and sweet dried cherry fruit on the palate. Not yet fully mature, but in a beautiful spot between young and mature.

Outstanding. A great example of Northern Rhone treatment of new world fruit at absolutely the peak moment in this bottle's life. Bits of tar, bacon and garrique on barely sweet new world fruit.

Drank our last two bottles in the past month on two separate occasions. The first showed livelier, slightly more youthful than the second, which seemed a tad tired, with more interesting nuances. Both were lighter in body as Arcadian's Pisoni's were this vintage. Looking at other recent reports, it's unanimous: drink up.

Four hour decant, and as a first I can say that it was likely too long. The nose began well, with cured meat, strawberry, cherry and earth. The palate began well but quickly showed itself as very flabby, there was not enough acid or tannin to hold up the red fruit and flesh, this had fallen over. Taupe-hued lighter garnet color of a wine that's left childhood behind. Strawberry nose with tomato skin and a touch of minerals on the midpalate; peppery on the finish. Overall, a savory Pisoni that's also the most delicate and ethereal Pisoni I've ever tasted, which is not at all a failure unless one hates wines that demand contemplation. Or Burgundy. Finally shedding some baby fat and emerging into early adulthood. There is still the underlying power of the Pisoni fruit (which seems to come through no matter the winemaker) but this is by far the most lithe and elegant expression of the vineyard I've had in some time.
