Blackberry, a touch of brambly earth, nice black pepper. Very nice fruit-forward wine on the pop, but starting to get a bit flat after a couple of hours. Totally dead on day 2. Drinking window (-2012) seems about right.

Drank from a magnum. Drinking very nicely with great integration and balance. Love these wines and each year gets better and better.

This is a big opulent Syrah with multiple layers of flavors that swirl in your mouth. Dark, dark purple color with overtones of spice, pepper, blackberry and plum. Some toasted oak on the finish.

Big and ripe with roasted black fruits, sage/thyme herbal spice, copious black pepper, and a mineral core that I notice more every time I try this wine. While this is more new world than most of the wines that I have been enjoying recently I still think it is one of the best made and most character filled Washington Syrahs available. And for $16 dollars after discount? It's not even close. Excellent!

This wine was dark purple in the glass all the way to the rim. It had a big nose of smoky roasted plum and blackberry along with spice and lovely whiffs of bacon fat. The palate on this wonderful “off year" wine was concentrated with ripe black fruit, pepper, chocolate and some sage/citrus notes. This inexpensive delight had a medium finish with blackberry, smoky tannin, fading black pepper and vanilla. Put down that crack pipe ITC, this stuff is excellent!

Alaska Cruise; 6/3/2006-6/9/2006 (Holland America Line - Oosterdam) : Rulo syrah just never lets me down. Dark and brooding. Still a bit young, but opened up nicely with an hour of air. Heavy(in a good way) with a touch of spice. Would purchase again.

Typical of Rulo's treatment of Milbrandt syrah with big smoky, ripe blackberry and plum on the nose and palate along with black pepper and some nice streaks of leather and mineral. The nose also features the bacon fat so well described by my Rulo pimp-brother Londello. This has great concentration and is a bit sweet and ripe but I swear Rulo syrahs are becoming more southern rhone-like every year. Oh, and no or very little obvious oak. Wonderful.

This is the one of the best tasting syrahs and doesn't cost $28. Layers upon layers of black fruit with that Washington bacon fat tinge in the nose. Try the Silo sometime if you can find it.

The winemaker had warned us that this wine was very young in the bottle and it was pretty rough when first opened. After a day it developed a big lush, viscous presence in the mouth with flavors and a nose of roasted plums, cinnamon and black pepper. I believe that this is going to be a wonderful syrah but it needs some time to settle down in the bottle.
