This bottle shows a light medium yellow colour. The nose is almost the same as it was 52 months earlier in my last published note, except the volume isn't turned-up as high and waxy notes have emerged. No spirtz in the mouth and the overt sweetness of 4+ years ago has dissipated. The sense of briskness and purity is maintained. Still very intact on the 2nd day from a half-bottle. Close to fine and at 18 years old it's fit …

A beautiful wine that paired wonderfully with bourbon molasses glazed corned beef on St Paddy’s Day.

This, magnificent. With a bit of air this just grew in intensity. The focus, vibrancy, energy and texture is just standout. There a lot going with citrusy, maybe even tropical, but definitely herbal tones. At some point I stopped thinking and just enjoyed the wine. Intensity and acidic structure of the wine, together with length of finish sticks to the the mind. Rarely rate much lately but had to get in some sort of measure as to how good it …

It's close to six years since my last note and I'm surprised at how little this has evolved in that time. Yellowish, but still very bright. Pear, melon, ripe grapefruit, steel and talc on the nose. Spirtzig still evident. Again, sweeter than I expected, and there has not been any evolution in the sugars that I can detect. Brisk, very pure and refined, with salinity showing on the red apple finish. This is fine kabinett which seems to be still …

Lime zest on the nose. Yellow peach on the palate, with a distinct level of residual sugar, balanced by a nice acidity. There is also a pleasant salinity to the finish. The wine has a great lightness to its mouthfeel that makes it a joy to drink

Some positive development since my bottle last year. More complexity on the nose which has petrol and lush fruits. The precision and edge to the palate has also improved. Can't wait to see what develops next year!

Yellowish colour now. Yellow & red apple nose, with some exotic fruit, pear and sherbert as well. Develops a minor, custard-like character. The palate is very intense, with the peach and red apple flavours having a very good length. There is more weight here than last time. Plenty of spritzig. Despite the almost saline finish, there is a lot more sweetness which weaves in and out on the front and the middle palates, than I expected. This should blossom in …

Easy drinking. A bit too much sweetness per my taste. Palate is dominated by RS.

Another gorgeous bottle. I don't have the context to understand if this is proper Kabinett, or if it is Spatlese in Kabinett's clothing. Feels wispy and like Kabinett to me, but this bottle felt more unctuous and ripe than the last one, some of the fruit has a tropical note. Still, the wine is fresh and energetic, perfectly balanced, and just highly delicious. I bet it's Spatlese in Kabinett's clothing. But I still love it.

HDH Bordeaux Auction; 10/31/2014-11/1/2014 (Chicago, IL) : #03-13, 8.5% abv. A very floral nose with notes of lychee, honeysuckle, pineapple, and other stone fruit. The spice notes I detected aren't as prevalent now as before -- though the electricity is still just off the charts. Incredibly long and lip-smackingly delicious.

HDH Auction (Tru - Chicago, IL) : Tart, refreshing, and mineral-driven. Lots of peach, lychee, pear, and a steely disposition on the palate made this a beautiful Kabinett.

Gorgeous. real depth, harmony, and complexity to the aromas, which to me show golden apple, geranium and herbs, a bit of baking spice, and very mineral. Lovely, enticing, changing, tactile nose. perfectly harmonious and lively on the palate with real drive but also real delicacy. A bit of petrol starting to show which makes me think this might be a bit more advanced than it should be, which probably speaks to me keeping it under my bed throughout the summer …

Drunk as aperitif, no formal TN. Very elegant and beguiling nose. Lovely, quite tense and just barely sweet, with a chalky and slate-y finish.

#03-13, 8.5% abv. Very pale straw colour. I finally understand that kaffir note in riesling -- it's here in abundance, as well as a whiff of honey. The palate has just a tinge of sweetness, tempered by some very sinewy acidity and a slightly bitter mineral twang. Incredible tension. An excellent bottle of Kabinett that exemplifies everything that is great about the 2012 vintage.

I'm not sure that I got a good read on this. It feels like there is a lot of potential energy here and that the wine is coiled up still, but it's confusing because what's available now is very delicious and balanced. But there's something under the surface that feels like its worth waiting for.

Another amazing 2012 Kabinett. This baby was a little sharper, more focused than the Shafer-Frohlich, while still keeping to the beautiful 2012 markers of similar wines!

Nice young kabinett with a honey/sugar mid palate feel. Not yet much in the way of floral scents. Like many 2012s, it needs time and is currently a bit sweet. A mid range kabinett

Light gold. Crisp, light and sweet nose of crisp apple, lime, creamy peach and tropicals like banana, light herbal, grass and green and some spice. Also some flint and slate. Very light and airy, maybe a touch low on intensity. Enters nice with the lime, apples, tropical fruit and honey. The herbal, green and flinty/slate aspects come out as the palate develops. Light - this is a real Kabinett, not heavy, with good but not great acid. The finish is …

I absolutely loved this. Super pure fruits in the tropical realm with a red berry note that reminded me of wines from the 2001 vintage, though without as much power. Though there is plenty of acidity here I thought this was very well balanced indeed. We drained the bottle in a hurry.

Lots of sponti and minerality on the nose and the palate. Unfortunately (for me) it's lacking a bit of the textural element needed to take the edge off of the razorlike acidity. Hopefully it will settle down with time, but for now it's a bit too reminiscent of 2010.

Odd celery and cucumber aromas on the nose. Pure and crisp with intense, sharp lime fruit. Gains a little creaminess on the palate with a sweet pie crust flavour on the finish.

Light yellow, greyish. Not very aromatic, but some lemon, smoke and grass. Nice, half-sweet taste of apple, lime and straw. Medium bodied and well balanced. Worked well with strong spices, olive oil and dates (daddel..).

Straw colour. A lovely nose of yeast, slate, white peach and floral notes. On the 2nd day, there was yellow apple, a bit of lime, green apple, sweet 'n' sour lemon confectionery, plus a slight smokey note. Lightish/medium body. Slight spritzig. Seamless off-dry palate. Lots of class here. On the 2nd day this was a little greener for a while, before blossoming. A fine, multi-layered kabinett.

Not much to smell at first. Later the nose had something mineral and was a little smoky. Quite complex for a Kabinett. Taste was good with beautiful acidity as can be expected to match the sweetness. On the palate citrus fruit and peach with a light flavour of yeast. Very nice and light and can certainly develop a little still.
