From open 75cl at Trinidade restaurant, Lisbon. Glad to have tasted this after consuming a couple bottles of the (also excellent) 2018 over the past year. The extra 2 years show—entirely positively—in a more open-textured, slightly drier profile. This is an outstanding artisanal LBV, with a few rough corners, but so much energy and dark-fruited luscious-textured complexity. Not quite Vintage Port, of course, but almost alarmingly close to how, say, Warre 1997 is showing right now. Terrific value, much pleasure …

WSET II Class; 2/22/2025-2/23/2025 : During day 3 of my WSET Level II course, we concluded with Port wines, comparing aged tawny against Late Bottled Vintage styles. This LBV demonstrated the ruby style's emphasis on fruit character. This LBV showed deep ruby color. The nose displayed pronounced intensity with medicinal cherry, chocolate and espresso notes. The palate was sweet with very high alcohol (20%) in a full body. It exhibited pronounced black fruits and chocolate flavors with strong alcoholic character, …

Red purple colour, just a little fading at the rim, Liquorice, cloves, sloes on the nose, Aromatic and fragrant, still quite a bit of tannin but it's very ripe and soft. Sweet and warming, luxurious and round. Leather on the finish. Good now though will improve for 5-10 years easily and become more complex and vintage-port like.

Very dark red/purple color. Small glass with our Opera Cake from the wine pairings at Meritage. Quite ripe with dense black and blue fruits, blackberry liqueur, incense, licorice, bold, but fairly contained. 90+ to 91pts.

This is very very good indeed, ripe dark fruit, dark chocolate, aromatic herbal and spice notes, leather and just a little tannin. Still young and fresh, this is only going to get better. Proper single Quinta quality here

Mint, dark chocolate, black raspberry and a bit spicey. This is best after 24 hours opened; the fragrance moves up several notches. Stout character with clove and sweet balsamic; it's a cigar lover's dream. Bought in Lisbon, Portugal for $14 euro (375ml).

The wine looks inky colored. The legs are slow. It smells like red currant, strawberry jam, light toast, oak, black pepper, meaty, chocolate, soy sauce and alcohol/hot. The body is full. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has low acidity. It lacks acidity in order to keep it balanced.

Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (The Landmark, London) : Liquorice, sweet spice, black fruits, plums, figs, dried fruits, slightly spirituous on the palate though the acid, tannins and sugar are well balanced. Okay

Opened about a week ago for cooking. Still very closed on the nose and alcohol-dominated one week later, but the palate is deep and rich, if a bit boozy still. Will continue to revisit over time.

This is one of the best LBV Ports I’ve had in years- lots of depth - dried fruit, fig, and dark chocolate. Zap-pow-zawee!

Deep ruby red colour. Medium (+) nose with dark plum, mint, dark cherry and vanilla. Pronounced taste of dark plum, dark cherry, mint, vanilla, ripe blackberry and sweet black pepper. Long and sweet finish. Low acidity. Light and soft tannins. Full body. A very good LBV that is ready to drink now. Goes well with dark chocolate or chocolate based desserts.

Best value ruby port I can think of. Unfiltered like a vintage but longer ripening in the cellar. Has the red fruit and depth of a Quinta do Noval port. Shows beautifully now.

This, unlike practically every other port (all species) I've had was better the first day that the second - it was chewy, nicely edgy, interesting, very fruity - by day 2 it had got just a little soft and fluffy.

Nose: Boozy cherries, wintergreen, and cedar. Palate: Milk chocolate notes, pomegranate, cinnamon, cedar, and eucalyptus/menthol notes all dance upon the palate. Woody finish. Very smooth. Tannins and acid are not pronounced. Heat is diminished when drunk at cellar temp.

Quinta do Noval (the single vineyard) 2008 Unfiltered Late Bottled Vintage Porto, 19.5 pabv; Vintus LLC, Pleasantiville, NY. According to the website, this wine has four or five years in wood. One should distinguish between Noval LBV Porto, a negociant blend, and Quinta do Noval LBV Porto, which is a domaine single-vilneyard (quinta) bottling. They are often mixed up in CellarTracker and not separated out, and mis-called. Got some Stilton out, but have my doubts with a wine of this …

Drunk from D+8 This really is a very nice LBV - young but quite smooth, but with a certain punch - at the dark end of the spectrum - much too easy to drink!

Always reliable - best after 24 hours in the decanter - pretty alcoholic in the nose, and hot in the stomach, but in between this has lovely flavours rolling around, and finishing nicely.

Had over two months (preserved with Gas) and this didn't miss a beat. Lots of dark fruit (raisin, blueberry, blackberry) with some vanilla spiciness. Not a ton of complexity but a great value in the $20-$25 range.

Drank with 24 hours of air in the bottle, having extracted a small glass the previous night. Smells like blueberry, blackberry, raspberry, radishy/peppery spice, and gravelly earth; nice freshness. Similar elements on the palate, fresh, with good balance between moderately sweet fruit, tart acidity, and noticeable but fairly smooth tannins. Quite tasty, with a good combination of freshness and substance/depth, all I hope for in an LBV. Good stuff, and a good value.

Deep red-purple, lovely nose of wet raisins - thick, rich, round - nice warmth - blackberries, blueberries, a few cranberries, a single damson - not the massive power of a young vintage port, but complex flavours and a long finish - this can only get better.
