Antoine Chevalier Champagne Tecta Silva Blanc des Blancs Extra Brut Les Renardes

Very shy upon opening but watch out - on day 2 a very seductive champagne that leads with savory, earthy tones and a wallop of chalky acids. Will all be wishing we had more 5 years from now.

Light color, low intensity bubbles. Hay aromas. Light weight, crisp, lovely dry citrus, acidity, and stone.

Same color, mousse, and 0.8 grams of residual as the Carkonnia. Hay and buttered toast. Medium weight but broader than that wine. Deeper pitched, more savory, saline flavors, and even more finishing texture. Not a powerful wine but excellent.

100% Chardonnay here. The wine has a slightly oxidative style. Fermenter in oak, which makes sense. Good balance. Chevalier is a new producer to the US market for 2024. Overall, a nice champagne with a clear style and while not my favorite of the lineup — I’m usually not a huge fan of oxidative styles — this one did perform nicely, with plenty of ripe fruit for a brut nature, and I was happy to drink. 89pts.
