Gargantua Syrah California

Excellent and ready. Strong aromas of Italian prune plums and very dark fruits. Then a rather lighter body than expected, easy to drink, round Syrah - with flavors somehow reminiscent of good Valpolicella. I loved it.

Needed about 2 hours to open up. Deep ruby color. Dark fruits, tobacco and spice. Longish finish with integrated tannins (after opening up). Great with a cassoulet.

Our second bottle in the Gargantua series from Bergstrom, this their California. It’s a lovely bottle, opening up with a whiff of black licorice on the nose after a P&P. Deep red color in the glass. Deep fruit forward and silky, fine tannins and a bit of bell pepper on the nose. I’d like to see what this is like in a few more years.
