Honey, fig, some plum, tropical fruit, leather. Very long, complex finish. Wonderful smoothness and elegance. Cocoa, dried flowers. Enjoyable end to the Pontet Canet dinner.

Figs, western plums, raisins, and miscellaneous spices including nutmeg, complex and delicate and well-balanced overall, typical well-made GC, but the touching point is lacking

Deep golden and shimmering colour, followed by a nose of honey and some plums - What an invitation to enjoy this special XO! Super smooth, very elegant and balanced, with chrysanthemum flowers and marmalade-like notes with a long finish. It really is quite hard to describe but for the use of the descriptor, hedonistic and such a privilege to get to try this. Never tried a 90 year old cognac until last night.. and it was delightful. Very expensive, at …

Showing a lovely sweetness and more civility than you’d typically expect from a young cognac, however there is more wood than desired that tended to dull the flavors some.

This is a very pleasant Cognac, not as smooth as the aging would suggest but add a drop or two of distilled water and voilà! The heat goes away and the nuances come alive.

I think there should be a I LOVE IT rating. Repeat previos notes. This tasting a bit off but these are limited bottles. Again, import these. Price in GBP swapped back and shipped is way lower then buying in US.

Same as before. Truly exceptional. Creamy, apples, slight oak on the nose and same notes on palate. So refined.

Tasting Tesseron with Tesseron (vinum) : [blend of ~75-100 yr; ugni blanc + folle blanche+ colombard from Grande Champagne] Where to begin...? Rich, toffee, dark choc, dried plums and figs. Layered, structured, severe, and certainly introverted. Invites one to really stick one's nose and deeply inhale! Powdered mocha, dried mandarin peels, yuzu marmalade and sansho/sichimi spices. Creamy butterscotch. Aged, yet such freshness! Tall, rich, sweet, structured, layered (yes, I mentioned before), textured, balanced, and really taking its time to open. …

(EastKillara) Wow - dark butterscotch nose, burnt butter, vanilla, cloves, dried orange peel and figs. Bubblegum florals, white exotic spices and vanilla caramel, royal jelly, walnut, fresh cocoa and butterscotch, but somewhat much rather more restrained and elegant than the 53 - almost regal and more grandfatherly. Exquisite and precious!

Wow! Utterly elegant. Smooth. Silky. Apple, orange, slight oak, nut on the nose and palate. You'd never know this was 80 proof if you didn't look. Expensive but the whole experience is worth it. I'd say this edges my 99 for Glenmorangie quarter century. Best tasting I've ever had of anything with alcohol. Again, import this. Much cheaper!

(random mid-week) Sweet wood, dried orange peel, marzipan, almond essence, hints christmas spice, even tinge cola nut. Bright stone fruit, dark choc, somewhat leafy mints. Finishes nutty and apple wood. Lingers long, sweet and clean, elegant timber notes with fresh leather.

Whisky@Dale's (Quintara) : Toasted cookie, nutty almond meal, bready hazelnut. Sweet on the palate, with lifted dried fruits, figs, copper and nutty ("smells like a freshly launched ship!" Dale said), finishing with impressions of sweet anise and new aircon.

The youngest of the quartet and a personal favourite. Fresh and floral, sea breeze and candied fruit, mineral and energetic, light but not ephemeral, balanced out beautifully by the warmth from the wood, harmonious and elegant, fragrant and long. I do not drink Cognac every day, but if I would...

A venerable old Cognac (three generations old, or so the producer claims), quite tertiary but certainly not dominated by the wood, deep and rich and concentrated but retaining wonderful mineral freshness and fruit even at this old age, sour butter and rancio, impeccable balance and elegance, expressive but concise, eloquent yet not verbose, perfectly harmonious, precise, incisive even, floral and extremely long. Of all the distillates in the world, this could only ever be Grande Champagne Cognac - 60 to …

While the nose on the 29 has a magical ancient quality, the taste experience is not genuinely a soft cognac , only average at this price. It simply has WAY to much barrel to be considered a great cognac! The fruit elements and subtle cigar box spices get lost in the old RUMesque barrel element. If you are drinking this with a cigar or chocolate then maybe it does possess some sublime qualities, but if you are looking for the …

A 50th to Remember (If Only My Memory Hadn't Faded in the End), aka "How I Met Your Maya" (Napa Valley, CA) : Just a quick sip before calling it a night, so not much I can do apart from memorializing it for posterity's sake. My fuzzy recollection is of caressing waves of sweet heat. I've had this once before, remember it fondly and hope I get the chance to savor it again.

BC is right about it having lots of sweet orange rind on the nose, that's really the main note here. That, and oak. This is very oaky for an entry level cognac, and I think that helps give it its fullness, sweetness, lack of burn...which is fair and a lot of people want that. My only personal reservation is that I like younger cognacs to actually have minimal oak presence so that the youthful energy shines through, whereas this comes …

The NV Tesseron Lot # 29, X.O. Exception is a blend made from Cognacs around the 1900's with 1929 being the "base" vintage. Deep bright gold with an amber rim that is almost glowing. An absolutely lovely perfumed nose of peaches, apricots, almonds, walnuts, caramel and a gentle slight spice all well integrated and layered above the charming alcohol that assist in lifting and opening the bouquet of the wine. The palate displays marmalade, flowers, slight apricots, spiced thyme and …

Nose: Aromatic when opening the bottle, more fresh plums, prunes, and figs, along with the sweet tobacco leaf of lovely age. In the glass, it takes time. It's disturbingly mute at first, but opens up after a few minutes. This is not something to pop and pour. It's pour and wait a bit. As it opens, though, the nose is really magical. Candied almonds (the type that has the thick syrup that runs across many almonds), marshmallow, rich marzipan, fat …

Apperently owned by Pontet Canet's owner. They also are apperently completely vertically integrated. Lots of sweet orange rind on the nose with spice. Lingering finish, not terribly fruity on the finish. The Lot 90 apperently means that it is based on the 1990 vintage. For around $60 its good cognac.

Tastes of...everything under the sun, and all that will be or ever was. Sunlight, starlight, spring rain, dew drops on rose petals. Etc. More realistically: walnuts, mushrooms, dank cellars, plums, spices, ancient oak. Amazing concentration but even more amazing lightness--it seems to float across the palate like a mist, leaving behind just...something thoroughly exquisite. I'll take a case, thanks.

Nose: orange rind, burned sugar, creme brulee, anise, raisin, and fig. Palate: incredibly silky, lots of citrus flavors (orange extract and kumquat), vanilla, anise, nougat, rich creme brulee, and a finish of prune jam. Lovely finish. Maybe more elegant than Lot 53, but less powerful and emotive. Pleased to have picked this up, but I'll probably go in for another 53.

Dinner at Jean-Paul and Isabelle's House (Sai Kung, Hong Kong) : Bright shiny medium caramel colour. Nose is white semi-soft nougat with nuts, fresh-baked toffee, cinnamon, clove, raisins, Christmas cake. Palate is dry, very sharp, caramel and very bitter black chocolate. Smoky. Very rounded. Gorgeous. JP was extremely generous with this and I enjoyed it immensely even though I am not a Cognac guy.

I wanted to try a cognac that Robert Parker felt had achieved perfection. This was darned close. It had all of the cognac attributes I adore, oak, caramel, orange rind, and rich butter, yet was light and airy, almost like sipping fabulous mist instead of a liquid. I'm not sure I know what will excel what I had, but the nice thing about cognac is that you can keep coming back to it time and time again until the bottles …
