Deep ruby red colour with red brim. Actually still quite a youthful appearance, would certainly never think that this is 18 years old. Nose is mature but in no way tired and shows notes of dried fruit, leather, underbrush and some fresh tobacco. Mouthfeel is mature, dry, with smooth tannins, decent acidity and notes of dried cherries, leather and underbrush. Sugar is by now totally integrated, and the mouthfeel is dry. DnP. Beautiful brick red colour, wide orange rim, 4.5. Generous bouquet of cherries, spice and some oldish stuff underneath. Harmonious on the palate, totally resolved tannins, medium acidity, medium-body, finishing with this oldish impression. Drink now. Ok and interesting now, but would have been better five years ago. Nevertheless a nice glass of mature wine at excellent QPR

These Masi 5-star vintage wines are the bomb, and age so well; I decided to put this 2006 to the test of aging and was rewarded: spiced-plum, anise, and black cherry kicked things off, then there was the long finish that added hints of coffee some cherry kirsch and even some cassis notes. Really pleasant and so happy I saved this one, though sadly it is my last bottle.

You don't get to see 5-star vintages often and Masi is tougher than most when doling them out, you can see why they did it in 2006, even with 10 years on it the wine still feels fresh and lively: mocha, black cherry, cigar box, and very smooth.

Note too much to add to last note when sampled with Coravin. Drunk the rest of the bottle. Dark fruits, astringent, well integrated tannins as you would expect at 21 years, merest hint of oxidisation on the finish. Drunk with pheasant with truffle. Worked well.

I had a 96 bottle (bought at the vineyard), which was tired, brick red and oxidised so approached this with trepidation. What a surprise. Light garnet in colour, few signs of being +20 years. Smoky, dusty, dark fruit nose and quite sharp. Tannins fully integrated, tart fruit, quite astringent, short finish. Really very nice

Italian Wine Night in Philadelphia (Union League Club's Cellar 62) : Another interesting and better than expected showing at the Italian wine night, this is the "ripasso" version and showed much younger than its age. The color was translucent medium ruby with a smokey red-fruited nose. Very smooth and rich on the palate with some slightly tart red cherry and a smooth smokey medium long finish.This was a nice surprise and quite food friendly.

Drinking very well after 16 years, whereof the first 13 were spent in room temperature (but in complete darkness). It is very obvious that the vinifiaction makes it possible to store this type of wine for a very long time... The nose exhibits lovely acacia honey and dark sweet fruit. No real distinctive varietal flavors are noted - but that works in its favor as there is not much to search for.
