Ziereisen Gutedel Steinkrügle

A better version of Gutedel/Chasselas. Rested on yeast 22 months. Is made by a man, who used to be carpenter and classical farmer. Then he decided to become one of Germanys most interesting winemaker. Bone-dry: You lick stony ground. Nose: Flintstone. Hawthorn. Corymb rose. A whiff of apple and linden-honey. Taste: Flintstone. Quince. Mild licorice. Dry wood. After some time in the decanter good mineral length. No fruitiness. You could mistake it for a humorless, bone-dry Poully-Fuissé. Nice.

Direkt nach dem Öffnen sehr hefig-reduktiv, verschlossen. Also ab in die Karaffe. Nach einer Stunde dann ein anderes Bild: Sehr präsente Holznote (vielleicht etwas geröstete Mandel), dazu Hefezopf und ganz wenig Steinfrucht. Am Gaumen mit für Gutedel überraschend hoher Säure, etwas warm, leicht fordernd bitter, etwas cremig. Finde hier deutlicher Steinfrucht (Apfel?) und auch kräutrige Noten, Zitrus. Consistent with last bottle. Very good and quite complex for a Gutedel (Chasselas).

Opened and decanted this yesterday for 1h, then put 1/2 bottle into 187 ml bottles. This is for day 2. Aromas of apples, minerals, meyer lemon, and flowers. Lots of minerals, apples, grapefruit, mild flowers with a mildly waxy mouthfeel. Medium bodied with excellent acids. Moderately long finish with rocks and grapefruit. Drinking nicely.

Straight-up lemony citrus with medium body and loads of acidity; reminds me of Aligote, well-made but straightforward

Quite good. In a blind tasting one would probably guess Chardonnay or, to be more precise, Chablis. Very refreshing but that does not mean that this wine lacks substance. Great with food (in this case sea bass with pees). Will buy again.

2.5h in decanter. Shy aromas of unripe pears and unripe peaches, a hint of honeysuckle, flowers and minerals. Palate has more tart apples and lemon with a nice minerality. Nice concentration in a medium bodied package with a slightly viscous mouthfeel. Nice mineral finish.

Medium lemon in the glass, aromas are medium -, citrus blossom, palate intensity is medium +, bone dry, Meyer lemon, lime, apple, star fruit, hint of toast, wet rocks leading to a medium + finish, nice. Alcohol, acid and body are all medium.

deep yellow color... on the nose very neutral with some low intensity pear and apple, some minerals... no oak, no malo. on the palate dry, low to medium acidity, moderate midpalate weight, low amount of phenolics, low to medium alcohol. balanced wine with shortish length, low intenisty, ok complexity. like pretty much every chessalas i've had this is fresh, neutral, low acidity, medium body... for me this varietal is a lot like melon... i think the minerality of this wine …

More interesting than enjoyable at this stage. Saline. Mineral. Slate. A bit of citrus. Bone dry. Very interested in where this will go with a couple years age on it.

My first gutedel/chasselas. Ripe nose of fresh apricots, orange peel, Meyer lemon, Rainier cherries, and crushed wet rocks. Racy acidity yet light on the palate, with more stone fruit notes and a backdrop of sage and other herbs. Paired it with sushi, did not disappoint.
