On day two it really blossomed. The cork did not come out of the bottle in one piece. Classic Nebbiolo aromas. Immediately after opening, the tannins still predominated. On the second day, the wine was balanced, with even some ripe and sweet fruit. A privilege to be able to drink a wine of this age and proof of how the Produttori's wines can age.

Very, very impressed with this. Still full of vibrant red fruit, married.to great acid. Tannins were barely perceptible. It actually got better with time in the decanter. Showed much better than a 1989 and a 1986 (out of mag), and that too was years ago.

First bottle of this one. Drinking very well now with a 30-60 minute decant. Pale red brick color but not showing signs of age. Just a lighter style. It still has intense acidity and evident tannins but is also very drinkable and at the early side of life. I can see drinking a lot of these over the next two years but I also think it will improve over that time. I didn’t have the impression of being on the …

This was at full maturity; in fact I was surprised it has evolved so much since my last bottle. Much lighter/orange at the rim, even a brownish cast to the translucent red color. It has thrown a good deal of sediment. Nose is all tertiary with saddle leather and orange peel. Very dry, with more tannin than fruit. I don’t know if this bottle is a one-off, or representative of other bottles. Given my experience with this producer, I’m inclined …

Wines of Piedmont Hosted by Steve Alley (Vintage Wine Storage - 10615 Metric blvd Austin, TX 78758) : Enjoyed at a wine tasting event featuring wines of the Piedmont. Still very vibrant at 40+ years old. Aromatic, flavorful and balanced. Definitely mature, but this bottle seems like it could go another tens years. Impressive for its age.

Like the 2012, this is showing some brown and orange in the color. More than I would expect, actually. This also has a lot of autumnal, earthy aromas at first, but with air, gains more red fruit and menthol notes. I really should have decanted this in hindsight. A little lighter bodied, in line with the vintage. Still some fine tannin, and nice acidity. I’ve always liked this vintage of Produttori. I have one bottle left. I doubt I will …

Pop and pour. Nice ruby translucent color. Nose of red fruit, rose petal and tar. On entry, beautiful fresh red fruits with rose petal, tar, and sweet spice. Tannis is somewhat grippy, but not as much as in a typical PdB. Mid palate, the tannis is dusty and chewy but well integrated and somehow felt smooth. The finish is long and lingering with fresh acidity. The wine is nicely balanced and structured. A beautiful wine.

Still drinking well. Maybe on the downturn but still delicious. Decent amount of sediment when decanting. Should have stood this up for a full 24 hours (only did about 8). Aromatics were killer when decanting. Red fruit, bright florals, cedar, rose petals, graphite. Tannins are well integrated and unobtrusive. Great acid. Medium body.

Enjoyed by the bottle at Compagnie Flatiron in NYC. This is a fully mature Barbaresco that is drinking really well. It actually needed a tiny bit of air to open up. Still a decent amount of fruit with dried cherry and blueberry, alongside some dried herbs, cigar box, and leather. Really enjoyable and amazed how well this has aged. 92 points.

Two days after opening this wine it changed significantly. I had it in a wine-saver and had the wine with bucatini in a red sauce with shallots, sage and garlic. Red fruit flavors and great acidity. Delicious! New score: 91 points (from 89).

Checking in on this wine, as I have a 3L bottle for a future celebration. A lovely Nebbiolo, showing all the requisite sour cherry, old leather, tobacco leaf, moist soil notes. This wine is developing nicely, and tonight was a treat with a dear friend. Drink through 2031.

A really compelling and resolved wine. Black fruit, leather, fennel, dried flowers, intense minerals... So layered and multi-faceted. Supple, velvety tannins. Absolutely mesmerizing. Great now, but would easily go another decade or two. It wouldn't necessarily get better. Just different.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2014 Classico pours a slightly hazy garnet with a translucent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing. Initially showing notes of stewed red fruits, however with about 30 minutes of air, the fruits freshened up. Morello Cherry, macerated strawberry, dried roses, tar, leather, gravelly earth, and a pleasant mix of cool spices. On the palate, the wine is …

A very representative bottle. Violets, Saucisson, pepper, under ripe berries/fruit leather, cacao nibs. The telltale rusticity on the palate is likely to never fully resolve, but paired with a very intense/rich Bolognese it was downright smooth/elegant. A touch of volatility on the nose day 2.

don't believe the drinking window on this wine. this wine tasted young last night. tannins are hiding the fruit component but after 3 hours of sips it came open. classic barbaresco with a bit of varietal edge. great typicity albeit a little on the unpolished side and rowdy. decant to enjoy. excellent provenance on this bottle.

Restrained aromas of cherries, roses, and violets are couched in earthy, savory notes of umami and a whiff of mushrooms. The palate is fresh, crisp, and mature, and is endowed with a heft of firm tannin which settle down nicely with air. Good length on the powdery finish. Solid, if unspectacular.

2 hrs of decant. Focused and potent, with floral notes, tobacco and earth. Very consistent start to finish. The wine seems in a good spot for drinking as all components are in balance, ideally, I'd prefer with a bit of more age, but OK as it is. 14.5%

3rd of 6 bottles (750ml), last had this pretty Nebbiolo ~4 yrs ago (it was from a magnum). This Nebbiolo showed tart red cherry fruit, with mint, sweet tobacco leaf, sautéed mushrooms, and a slate-like minerality. The acidity is quite firm, the tannins are grippy but rounding out a bit, showing nice tension on the long-ish finish. Drink these remaining 750's through 2028+.

Down to my last couple of bottles. This is the first time that a Produttori wine has disappointed me. I’ve been drinking their nornale and riserva’s for 40 years. Usually I have thought that I’ve consumed them too early but in this case the first bottle of the case was the best. IMHO, this vintage has never gotten better with age. Tonight was no exception. Nice nose and starting to become pale in the glass but the fruit has never …

OK - it’s been another year or so since last bottle. This wine continues to confound me. My history with this producer has led me to believe that age dose nothing but improve Produttori’s wines. Not in this case. The last several bottles over the last 5-7 years has showed the opposite. Not bad or untypical but just sort of hanging where it’s been for years. I have a few more and will hold until It reaches 20.

Decanted and consumed over about 90 minutes. This wine has continued to evolve and was drinking well. Not overpowering; good structure and length. The QPR on the base Produttori Barbaresco is exceptional. Should have some life ahead. Overshadowed by stellar '04 Gianni Brunelli Brunello we enjoyed at the same dinner.

Squarely in its mature phase. The tannin is still quite strong but the acidity feels quite fresh. Classic leathery cherry and old wood with a hint of menthol. Not complex but surprisingly lengthy. This should remain here for a good while. Solidly strong.

Sour cherry, sandalwood, balsamic, and tar on the nose. Palate is refined and presents red and sour cherry, old shoe leather, earth, and faint fennel. Tannin is present, but not overbearing, slightly dry finish of slightly sweeter cherry fruit. Great food wine. Certainly in the prime drinking zone, this was slightly better than previous bottle, no big rush to consume. Drink now -2026
