This needs an hr or so decant- tasted before it was closed and ‘tart’ then blossomed nicely. A nice match for a pasta with homemade red sauce. Seems at its likely peak now - no rush but also not much to be gained by more cellar time-

Smoky bouquet with autumn and forest floor impressions. On the palate juicy acidity and beautiful and well dosed oak. Beautiful wine.

Cork broke at restaurant. Conveniently I brought my handy dandy durand with me. And the sommelier brought out a decanter. Initially very dry, graphite, minimal fruit. An hour in the fruit came out. Very pleasant. No tannins, don't taste the alcohol. Good finish. Not sure this will go much longer but very pleasant.

Decanted (modest dusty sediment), then served and enjoyed over three hours. Brown edges were a caution sign, and initially this wine was tight, lean and tannic. Nevertheless, after 2+ hours this started to really open up to reveal wonderful "tomacco", leather, and a rusticity that produced refined, tannic fruit back to the Pliocene Era. No joke - the trick to this wine is slowly allowing it to open no matter how long or what method is required! I think this …

I dropped off the 2 bottles at a friends a few days before with the ask to slow oxed all day then into a decanter about 1 hr before dinner. I was told that the bottles were opened at 12 noon, but not sure. To me thats just not enough time for a wine to emerge from a 13 year sleep. I have been drinking a lot of my older Brunellos and Barolo's (1997-2007) during quarantine. This was the first …

Medium garnet color with aromas of cedar box and spice. Big aged fruit up-front, black cherry and blackberry with notes of spice, tobacco, and espresso bean on the finish. Medium bodied, bright acidity, with slightly chalky tannins still their on the finish. What a beautifully aged and delicious Brunello with some years still left. Got 5 more left!

Opened two hours with no decant. Aged nicely. Nose is leather, a bit of menthol, earthy. Palate has nice earthy aspect with some sour cherry running through. Nice, long finish. This is very elegant, less rustic than when it was younger. I think it will continue drinking for 3-5 years but not going to improve.

This is a big boy and drinking beautifully. I had it in 2014 and 2015 and now in late 2017. This was its best showing and it has the legs to keep going for many years - at least 10 - 15. On opening, the nose was balsam wood and menthol - expressive menthol. I detected no fruit over the powerful balsam and menthol. That calmed after a 3 hour decant. The wine is, 8 hours later, extraordinary. The nose …

Still holding on well. Pretty floral and earth notes, tasty fruit, smooth and dusty tannic structure. That being said, it wasn't a wow wine. Very good, just not very excellent. Certainly enjoyed it, showing nice age in the finish, drink up if you have.

Not sure if this bottle was flawed or past its peak. No fruit...menthol and earthy nose and palate. Not pleasant...will try to open another one soon to see if this was bottle specific.

A big wine. Broad shoulders with big-sized structure. Ample dark fruits, and tons of flinty minerality wraps around the gorgeous acidity core. Everything's there, yet nothing's out of place, and this is already singing right out of the bottle. Absolute beauty that is also a beast.

After decanted and open for 45 minutes, displayed adequate fruit and smoothed out to become very enjoyable. Fully mature, balanced and lovely. Might have been better a few years ago, but very nice now. Quite rich for a wine of its age.

Signs of aged, brick red/rust translucent color. Long legs when decanting. Explosive bouquet. Well balanced; tight at first but opens beautifully with 2hrs of decanting. Wonderfully balanced, complex and full bodied Brunello. Cranberry, licorice, hind of tobacco, tart cherry, and elements of barnyard / cellar earthiness to round it out. Delicious!

Browny colour, opaque with very slow legs. Nose: liqueur style a bit; cherries, urnt wood, earthy. Plus some juniper notes. Very classic for maturing brunello. Taste: tannins ripe and you may call them soft as for brunello;) very nicely integrated. Good acidity balance. A lot of sweet cherries. Even there are some jammy notes its quite light. Good to drink now.

From a magnum. A beauty right now. Dense and succulent, the core is a combination of ripe dark cherries, olives and that special Montalcino 'garrigue' of brush, olive trees and volcanic soil. This wine is seamless and powerful now and the riserva quality fruit will carry this wine easily for years to come. Just right now and will continue to improve.

decanted for almost four hours (and it needs it!) - overwhelming bouquet of leather and tar - the tannins still dominate but the delicious fruit does make an apperance after a while - definitely a wine to be drunk with food - I find it difficult to read its future...

Had this wine given to me by a neighbor several years ago; have been waiting to open it but finally could wait no longer. Tasted it initially right after opening, expecting it to be a bit closed and it was. Wine had medium color, just a hint of brownish red. After decanting and sitting for an hour the wine had opened up. Wouldn't call it delicious but clearly a wine of some refinement and subtlety. No overwhelming one tasting note …
