Stark-Conde, Syrah, Stellenbosch

A tasting of older wines at the Singita Maturation Cellar (Sawmills, Stellenbosch) : (Tasted Blind) Deep garnet in colour, with an aromatic medley of blackberry coulis, blueberry, Morello cherry, wafer biscuit, and spice, sprinkled with a trace of black pepper and a nod to some meaty attributes. A solid frame with sweet, powdery tannins and juicy acidity, the core is filled with fleshy, dark berry fruits, spiced cherries, and an impression of chocolate-encased berries, akin to liqueur-filled chocolates. Cherries and chocolate. Fruit holding nicely, great color and legs. Finishes dry. Would buy again. Nice winery, as well.

The pronounced tannins are resolved. Sweet cherry favors over blackberry notes. Some spice.

Blackberry, cranberry compote, stout, mouth-drying tannins. Top note of baking spices.

South African wine tour - Day four (Stellenbosch) : Slightly confected blackberry over black pepper, a little dusty wood, plum & chocolate here as well. Juicy and savoury and a touch bitter, tannins are mouthcoating and chalky. Fruit is a little diminished but shows blackberry black by liquorice. Hmm
