Dominique Laurent Chambolle-Musigny

Nice crimson colour. Red fruit on the nose. No complexity but well balanced and very seductive.

So drinkable and savoury. The cork had crumbled but still intent enough. The wine a browning red and cloudy, but the taste alive and strawberry, spicy with oak still showing. The bottle disappeared in no time.

A little resinous and plenty of pine needle sap to the nose. There's also some musky funk. The fruit is dense and chewy and of the cherry persuasion. It really sweetens in the glass, gaining floral perfume. There's some aniseed spice and it finishes with good grip. Still very youthful but starting to drink well.

Quite tight with a hint of camphor and pine needle sap to the aroma. It is a strong, forceful Chambolle with good intensity and plenty of grip. Needs plenty of time.

I have been fairly impressed with a few Laurent wines of late, sure the fruit gets to spend a bit of time in new wood but in the main they have been well balanced and expressive of their specific terroirs. This 99 Chambolle has got more wood than a porn movie set. There is big lift on the nose and some quite pretty, sappy fruit things but they soon get mauled by camphor and sweet cedar oak notes.
