Bonterra Vineyards Syrah

Decent bottle for $14. Nice purple color. Great wine for middle of the week BYOB restaurant or take out. It is a bit hot in the mouth but not on the nose and a bit oaky for my tastes. Again, not bad at all at this price.

Taste of Mendocino (107 wines from 35 producers tasted) (Golden Gate Club, Presidio, San Francisco, California) : Berry, TCA nose; tight black fruit, TCA palate; medium finish (one of three Bonterra wines I tasted at this event, all of which were either slightly or, as in this case, very corked)

Pleasant nose of berries and fresh stems; fruit forward on the palate, a bit one dimensional. The finish is too hot. OK overall, but not a repeat purchase.

See my review for the 2005 vintage. The 2006 has simliar flavor with more oak and without as much structure as the 2005.
