Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur Meursault Clos du Cromin

In great shape with lots of life left. Very reduced on opening. Settled down after a few hours.

Clear faint yellow, off white color. Straw or hay-like nose that persisted and never revealed fruit characteristics. By contrast, the minerality and plush rich feel on the mid to late palate compensated for the funky nose. May be better qitg further aging .

Very reduced but good underlying material. Lots of pear skin on the nose. Firm mineral feel in the mouth. Very good. The reduction mellows out with time in the glass. From the northern section of the village with vines planted in 1951.

Golden; aromatic, reductive, matchstick; palate is full bodied, with good density of white stone fruit, fresh tangy lime acidity throughout, slight spritz of reduction and seems like it needs some air still; finish is medium length. This seems coiled, promising, well balanced structure but fairly reduced right now. Will give it some significant air. 2 hours decanted: The reduction improves a bit and the wine shows nicely, but doesn't develop additional complexity. 90 for now. Day 2: Less obvious reduction, …

Nose: petrol Palate: toasty, but hard to describe.

This was completely reduced, from first smell to the mid-palate to the finish. It improved by <5% on Day 2 and Day 3. This was pretty much the only note detectable on both nose and palate, so just not enjoyable. Sad, because I could sense how much vivacity and complexity there must have been underneath the burnt rubber cloak.

From 5/2/2018 M&S tasting against other wines of this producers and other producers of the 2014 vintage. Fairly rich, butter, apple, acidity, and minerality. Decent concentration.
