(Imported by NBWI). This top cuvée from Le Clos du Caillou is made from Grenache and Mourvèdre grown in the estate's vineyards in La Guigasse and Pignan with mostly sandy soils. Age of vines: 20 years for Mourvèdre. 70 years for Grenache. Indigenous yeast fermentation. 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvedre. Aged mostly in demi-muids for about 14 months. Unfined and unfiltered. Only 500 cases produced (ave). ------------- Color: Interesting. The color is quite light for a high-end CDP. It's barely …

Well integrated. No bold or outstanding fruit. Nose is not big either. Very smooth with low acidity. Elegant food wine

The medium garnet color of this Chteauneuf belies its concentration. A blend of 95% Grenache and 5% Mourvdre that was aged for 14 months in neutral oak foudres, it delivers aromas and flavors of dried cranberries, raspberries and Montmorency cherries, supported with Provenal herbs and mulling spices. Medium-bodied, low-to-medium in acidity, softly tannic, lightly oaked and without alcoholic heat, it stays solid on the mid-palate and finishes long. This particular bottle was decanted through a Vinturi aerator and fully showed …

My wife and I drank our first bottle tonight after opening and letting it sit for 90 minutes. No decant (very unlike me). I think this was perfect, and we drank the wine with dinner. While I am not that knowledgeable about wine, I know what I like. I practice drinking wine daily, and in doing so, I think I am getting smarter every day (not necessarily more knowledgeable)... but I digress. I think Jeff Leve and Frijole got so …

Flowers, red fruits and a touch of smoke open the perfume. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, fresh and vibrant with more of that floral edge that adds to the sweet, kirsch and cherries in the core of the wine. Drink from 2022-2034.

Smoke. spices, cherries and flowers on the nose are only part of the show. It is the ripe, lush, supple-textured, sensuous, elegant red berries on the palate that own the day with their length, purity and freshness. The wine is produced from a blend of 55% Grenache and 45% Mourvedre.

Wines during Provence trip; 6/18/2022-6/21/2022 : From prime plot of Pignan beside Rayas, this was tightly coiled and had more structure than the Quartz. Also had a more obvious new oak signature and a darker fruit profile, best to leave this for 10 more years.

Maybe a little more fruit forward then some CdP, but like most of the '09 Rhones this is drinking very well right now. The fruit while present isn't over the top, there is just more of it then other CdP wines, and the balance between everything is solid and well done. I like this producer and they seem to make nice wine at a good price.
