Torrin, The Maven, Paso Robles

Similar to the last bottle. Medium ruby in color, this wine has nice dark cherry flavor with leather, herb and spice. Medium bodied, med-hi acidity and smooth tannins. Excellent grenache based wine from Paso Robles.

Pnp. Opened this on the heels of a 2016 Maven that seemed to be fading and alcoholic. The 2019 is fragrant, fresh and more vibrant with black and red fruits, oak and dried spices. Balanced with good grip and a long finish. Paired well with Italian sausage/pasta dish. I set aside the 2016. Will see if it improves next day. Big nose of black fruit. On the palate dark cherry, blueberry and raspberry flavors with some spice and leather. Med to full body with medium tannins, high alcohol. Excellent wine.

Decanted 3 hours. I am of the age and life experience where surprises are not frequent. Although today’s social, economic and political climate could test anyone on such a statement, I still stand with it. My routine is my safe harbor, and I am grateful for it. A surprise is seldom.
