Fontanafredda, Barbaresco

I took this wine off its considerable sediment around lunchtime and gave it an 8 hour decant. It was absolutely superb. the nose was all rose petals and black earth. With time in the glass there were red fruit and tar smells coming to the fore. The palate was so vibrant and pure with outstanding depth of fruit and exquisite balance between sweet and savoury elements. The wine's structure is still sound and everything is in perfect harmony. A real treat at a restaurant, offered by another patron. Incredibly dark, tawny color with little browning, a true tar, leather, dark cherry and smoke palate and lush, velvet/ rough cloth mouth feel. At first, a dried crustacean taste on the side but that dissipated with time.

Old Wines [1959 - 1982 ] (Vancouver) : End of Tasting Wine, Notes not formal Colour was a light ruby, maybe a hint of garnet, the fruit was still there tannins soft, all around a very enjoyable wine to drink
