This 2004 Max’s Garden was mad full of black fruits upon opening and first taste! Big fresh fruit aroma! Of course that lasted a few seconds and then the next hour the wine was changing by the sip. Tannins appeared first, smoke, maybe graphite or lead earth. These were all pretty good flavors on their own and were not off due to age. With food the wine excelled. Gnocchi and beef tips went well with the tannins. We drank it …

We drank this a while back. It was tasty with Afghan food. Sad that was our last

Dark rosewood color. Sweet and spicy nose, with smoky campfire aromas and the green note I find so frequently in Australian Shiraz. The palate starts juicily, with luscious black fruit flavors, but becomes a bit thin and bitter at midpalate. This finishes with little tannic texture but quite tart acidity. Inferior to the 2005 Glaetzer Godolphin we tasted immediately after. Not sure this will improve at all with additional aging.

Just going into the dumb phase. Less than hoped.

Decanted and drank. Inky color, big nose of spice and dark fruit. This wine is still packing a ton of fruit but the heat is gone. It is drinking beautifully right now.

Opened, tasted and then decanted for 2 hours, initially very hot on the palate, smoothed out after decant, I am a big Shiraz fan and this is a classic Aussie Shiraz. My first Two Hands. Nice nose of sweet berries and some smoked meat, medium finish with nice mouth feel, good solid Aussie Shiraz but nothing really special for the $35 I paid. I would prefer a Penfolds Bin 128 at this price range. Still, a good Aussie Shiraz.

{cork, 14%} By Two Hands standards, a fairly modest wine. Still dark dark ruby in colour. The somewhat developed aromas are solidly fruity without being over the top (in context, of course; Chinon drinkers will be shaken). There is a little traditional Heathcote iron and rust among the generally black-fruit aromas. The palate is very friendly, despite being medium-full bodied; the tannins are very soft indeed, and there's enough acid to hold the wine up to some degree. A full …

Dark ruby red color. Plum and licorice flavors. Very nice wine though for the price you can probably find better.

Double decanted. With Sal's beef stew. Fairly simple with cool fruit that was still just a little too jammy for my taste. No tannins remaining, or oak for that matter. Disappointing.

Decanted about an hour. Deep, dark purple color. Blackberries, smoked meat, black pepper, licorice, baking spices, and a floral element on the very rich smelling nose. Medium to full body with solid, ripe tannins and very nice acidity. Not as over the top on the palate that the nose led me to believe, but it is still big. Nice length on the finish which has nice savory elements to counter the big fruit. Very tasty.

Two Hands Garden Series Horizontal (May Wine Club) : Tasted single blind. The nose showed deep fruit, spice and integrated oak. Oak and tart fruit on the palate. Not too big. The finish is fairly long with more tart fruit.

First let me say I abandoned any further Two Hands purchases after I got a group of overripe $20 blends a couple of years ago that were polluted with brett and other stability issues. This wine was clean but was an absolute rip-off at nearly $40. It must have be de-alc'ed because there is no way it could be only 14% alcohol with this level of ripeness. Pruny, oaky, berry nose with a modicum of heat, prunes, wood, black pepper …

TN: St. Cosme, Termes, Two Hands Max's, Cheysson, Sterling Three Palms; 12/25/2009-12/26/2009 : I had gotten this at a Ukranian Dance School Fundraiser and forgotten about it. Ceertainly seemed unhurt by holding a few years. This was youthful with lots of black raspberries and black pepper. Plenty of fruit. Some noticeable oak on the finish but all in all, a pleasant wine. Nice texture. I don't drink much Aussie Shiraz, but there are some I enjoy. I had no problems …

Pours dark with beautiful aromatics pushing spicy red berries, black cherry, cocoa, and a bit of earth. Full with defined acidity. This wine has some grip with tons of raspberry and sour cherry essence. Throw in some graphite and and a pinch of soil.

On day 1, this has a narrowly oak-spicy nose, with subtle stones. But its extremely boisterous in its boysenberry flavors. On day 4, the wine has opened and gained both breadth and depth, with meaty, high-toned spice and black pepper notes, and an ultrasweet personality that just might not have enough flesh to back up the impression of sweetness. But by a full week open, things have calmed down and taken an interesting and attractive direction towards graphite-like notes on …

This bottle opened with abundant black fruit, licorice, and smoke but is currently a little out of balance with the acidity and tannins showing prominently on the palate.

Very dark, opaque purple color. Blackberries, licorice, cherries, black raspberries, and baking spices on the nose. Full body with solid, ripe tannins and good acidity. Loaded with sweet berries, licorice, minerals, and cherries. Long finish with the sweet berries and minerals giving way to cherries. Using a Parker term, very hedonistic, and flamboyant. Very ripe but not syrupy and sweet. Fantastic value for the $19.99 I paid. I wish I had a ton more.

Quite dark violet-maroon. Complex, highly expressive nose is smoky, confectionary, and slightly decadent, with black/raspberry, subtle sous bois, and toast. Relatively dry in the mouth, somewhat like a ripe-year Bordeaux in feel, with lots of tart (although not excessively acidic) berries and quite moderate extraction for the genre. Finishes peppery, bright, and superbly long. Opened up over several days, showing first a heavy degree of eucalyptus and then more and more chocolatey tones, while the flavors took on greater sweetness. …

Drank at friend's house...no formal notes. No decant. Wine exhibited a nice dark opaque black. Friendly nose with masses of red and black fruit. The wine took at least one hour to open up. Fruity palate with that slight confected two hands taste. Nice smooth finish. An approachable, fun wine that is ready to drink. Recommended around $20. 40+5+5+17+17+7=91

Absolutely wonderful. Red red red currant or whatever else red berry flavor. Tart. Much more than typical Aussie shiraz. Almost like a Thompson vineyard SB, CA syrah. But totally great.

Had for Thanksgiving, to hell with Gewurtraminers! Excellent Shiraz, tons of fruit, spice, one of the best Aussies I've had. Looking forward to the other Two Hands.

14.5% A noticeably blacker, darker purple than the 03 Lily's and 03 Bella's. Very sweet nose – a touch confected. Good palate with very, very ripe flavours. A bit over the top. Very Good.
