Staglin has become a standard bearer for me in terms of classic Napa cabs. They always bring beautiful texture and traditional cabernet flavors in a modern Napa style, without ever being over ripe. Drank this at American Cut alongside a tomahawk ribeye, which was a perfect pairing. This was probably drinking at its height, with nicely integrated tannins, yet I'd agree with others it's probably best to drink these up sooner rather than later.

Similar to prior notes after double decanting for 2.5 hrs, except it is now a more classical Napa cab; delicious, drink or hold

3 hours slo-ox, tasted over 2 nights with Prime fillets and Ribeye. Jus tlike the last bottle the 2 glasses on the first day had more tannin, unripe fruit than the 2nd day. Day 2 showed much more intergration and balance - nice acid, soft tannins, plum, blackberry. This needs to be decanted at least 2-3 hours prior.

I raised my score as this was my last bottle which I do not regret consuming (why do we buy wine anyway?). As i write this I reviewed my previous notes and agree with the comments about aromas, flavors and palate taste with no changes except I will admit that there is perhaps another 2 -3 years available in the bottle for this wine. But it is drinking so perfect now, why wait?

All good things must come top an end...and this vintage is nearing that point. The aromas and flavors, although still hanging in there are beginning to weaken. I have a couple more bottles, of this vintage, which I will definitely consume THIS year. I'm bring in my drink window due to this factor.

First of a 4 bottle auction lot. Pnp'd and enjoyed over a few hours with pizza and binging Season 1 of Goliath. Milk chocolate and blue pen ink on the nose to start. 92-93 at the open. Initially, the darkest opaque purple/magenta in the glass. Nose of dark plum fruit, graphite and very light florals. Palate is medium weight, full of fruit it's beginning to enter its secondary phase. Black plum notes getting stronger throughout. 93-94. Two hours in and …

Generously poured for us by Martin for a compare/contrast with how another fairly esteemed (even if they’re not my favorite) and relatively comparatively priced producer used BO grapes, albeit from a not particularly proximate, although high quality, vintage. In this case, no contest. Yep, there’s plenty of vibrant fruit, forest floor and some spice here, but lots less structure and more oak and vanilla, which really distract. I do like this, but would struggle to be a buyer, even at …

This wine is a transition wine between Heitz Bella Oaks and Bella Oaks Proprietary Red that uses Bella Oaks fruit. Very nice wine and at 10 years old it showing quite well. Still very much on the fruit forward side (mostly black fruit) of the spectrum, but some tertiary flavors developing, including cocoa, anise, earth, and tobacco, with some toasted oak. This is tasty right now, but I believe will get even better with another 10 years of age or …

Drink now as this wine is perfectly in the sweet spot. The other notes I have made on this wine still stand true, but the maximum drink window for California cabernets is 15 years. If you are just a collector, ok, but I consume all of the wines I buy from Screaming Eagle, Colgin and Scarecrow, etc to Staglin. This wine is perfect right now so just open and enjoy, even if it is your last bottle, Remember, Staglin makes …

Double decant, poured 1 glass after an hour slo-ox in bottle. First impression was negative and I wondered about the provenance or maybe it was a bad bottle. Sour cherry, green bell pepper in a bittersweet wrapper lacking any softness or purity of fruit. NEXT DAY was completely different - so much better: seductive panoply of attractive black fruit, cassis, subtle spices, cedar, wrapped in a savory texture. Recommend opening this up earlier in the day or the night before.

Did I like it?....I loved it! So much more life in the bottle (which for some CA cabs is saying a lot). Long legs, long finish, balanced acidity and tannins. Rich flavors of blackberries, licorice, and slight dark cherries. This wine is drinking well now and will, in my opinion, be good for another 5 years.

You know you have had a GREAT wine when you can look at the bottle and remember the wine's characteristics. Flavors of black fruit, dark ruby color, full body, mild acidity, mellow tannins, lasting finish. Buy it, drink it (wait another 2 - 3 years on consumption). I decanted and filtered the wine, the aromas off the decanter filled the room. This is a wine to serve at a dinner party with close friends (the know wine), as no one …

Opened the 2012 Staglin together and a 2006 Hundred Acres Ark with MK&K. By group consensus, the Staglin was the better wine. M called the Hundred Acres aggressive. Definitely bigger and more dense, the secondary flavors were buried beneath all of the big fruit. The Staglin offered more in a smaller package with balance and lively secondary notes. Dont get me wrong, these are both excellent wines, but the edge goes to Staglin by a point or two. (The Hundred …

I upped my rating from last tasting several months ago. This wine is so good. High quality, very little tannin, looooong finish which is the stand out for me. I love all the wines Staglin Family produces. I didnt know much about them before a visit over the summer. They oddly dont get much press. 2012 is ready to go!

Classic big and powerful napa style wine. The structure is very balanced with a perfect amount of firmness. The best part about this wine is the perfectly pitched acidity that perfectly balances the boldness of the fruit. A very well executed napa cab. It is in a good place right now but it can easily hold for longer periods of time due to the powerful acidity.

Removed from a 55 degree active cellar and slow oxed for 2 hours. Consumed from an Italesse universal stem. Poured a surprising medium dark crimson hue, making me wonder as to the pitch and concentration of this wine. Very elegant nose of black plum, dark cherry, menthol, and some cocoa bean. Very tart on the palate and would have easily mistaken this for a 3rd/4th growth Bordeaux in an average vintage. Prominent tastes of sour black cherry, plum skin, and …
