My first Montalcino and I'm a convert. A savoury medium bodied wine with fresh acidity. Great drinking.

Capanna Brunello Masterclass, Gordon's, Waltham, Mass.: 14.5% alcohol. Aged for 42 months in large, neutral Slavonian oak barrels. This is a big step up from the Rosso (in price and quality). More extract, more intensity, more definition. It is also very tannic, but the tannin levels seem more balanced here. Should be good to drink in about 5 years.

Had the Capanna BdM as part of the myths and unicorn tasting at Vineria Aperta Montalcino in Castelnuovo dell’Abate. Don’t judge this wine bar by its cover! Staff are super knowledgeable, and their selection is amazing. This wine made in a traditional style was incredible and our pick of the tasting. It smells like dark cherries, blackberries, and plums, with a little bit of leather, tobacco, chocolate, oak, and spices. When you taste it, it's full-bodied with firm tannins and …

Tasted at Benvenuto Brunello NYC. Medium garnet color, Nose is fragrant with red florals and red berries and a hint of minerals. Palate is some spice in addition to the cherry and mineral elements. Medium(+) tannin and acidity. Nice texture and depth. Finish is long but has a slight bitter edge to it. Needs tine in the cellar and aeration. Should be long lived.

Definitely seems past its prime. A little bit of fruit and some earthiness on the palate. Cork was s--t, even though I used an ah-so, it disintegrated.

Holding well. Deep prune color, lovely soft nose of mushroom, red berry fruit, smoke. Its a bit past peak, I'd say, but still very pleasant to drink, with enough acidity and tannin to work well with Thanksgiving dishes.

1990 Brunello and Chianti Riserva (Palo Alto) : Some VA, funk on nose, with faint red fruits, earth/mineral. A powdery, bright red fruit note. Opened up nicely in the glass, revealing blood iron, beef, dried herbs, with a fine finish. Better sense of freshness than most wines here. Nice structure. My 2/7, group's 1/7. (Tasted blind)
