The wine was opaque dark ruby in colour and offered an intense nose of sweet ripe fruit, intense black currant, blackberry, some bell pepper, coffee, spices and some tobacco. On the palate the wine showed intense black currant, blackberry, black cherry, bell pepper, coffee, tea, some tobacco, liquorice and some vanilla, with good acidity, ripe tannin, moderate heat from the alcohol and very good length of the sour finish.
