Der Pettenthal 2016 von Gunderloch stammt aus einer der kühlsten Parzellen, die stark nach Osten abdreht und sich mehr im grünlich-zitrischen Spektrum bewegt. Der Wein ist knochentrocken und zeigt in der Nase dichte Aromen von Limette, weißer Ananas, Apfelblüte und warmem Stein, begleitet von einem Hauch Lakritze. blind I guessed Pettenthal but no idea of grower and vintage. I like it, first drinking window now. A bit of spicieness, saline, good acidity backbone. At least 5 more years.

Unscrew and pour. About 3 years since my last btl. On the nose: meyer lemon, peach, chalk, soft green herbs. On the palate: lovely acidity, good density, but slightly thinner than I would like...good tang and length on the finish.

Pale golden colour. Medium (+) nose with petroleum, peach, lemon, wet stone and mango. Pronounced taste of green apples, white peach, lime, wet stone and mango. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium body. A very good and well matured Riesling GG. Give an hour of air. Drink now or over the next couple of years. Goes well with fish, shellfish, spicy or sushi.

NOSE: Gunderloch is using a Hoesch 1200-liter Stückfass for this wine and it shows itself with the white flowers and vanilla touch, with a hint of mineral and smoke. With time, the lemon curd and orange notes appear. A big, complex nose of creamy nectarine, spicy peach & lime with a touch of cinnamon. Palate is creamy, broad, & tight, with yellow orchard fruit, finishing with grapefruit-zest. Med+ acidity. Med+ intensity. Very nice balance & structure. 12.5% ABV

Very nice nose with loads of chalk, saline minerality, lime and a hint of floral notes. On the palate, good acidity to start and ok texture, but missing some midpalate depth. Still, very refreshing, and a good finish. Better with our pork chop.

Nierstein Riesling from the Pettenthal Grand Cru plot, or Grosses Gewächs as it is called in German. Fermented and aged on large 600 and 1200 litre neutral German oak vats, with a weekly gentle battonage. Also had the Rothenberg GG, this Pettenthal is fruitier and a little less complex. Intense aromas of peach, apricot, floral tones, iron. Medium bodied palate with high acidity and flavours of pineapple, apricot, tangerine, flintstone, iron. Long finish.
