From a mag. Very heavy oak dominating, buttery and creamy as others have mentioned. After a little time in the glass this rounded out nicely and the fruit came through. Overall an enjoyable wine but probably would not hold this much longer. Especially in a standard bottle

Predominantly oak on the nose, with some apple and pear, and some creaminess, as it warms in the glass. Texture is nice. Very oaky and buttery, again with some creaminess, and the smallest ester hint as it warms, but almost no fruit or acid. A bit of toast in the aftertaste. Might have been better years ago when the fruit was there to add complexity. Nearly one-note.

From Mag…beautiful chard. Very well balanced, nothing dominates. Fruit still there, decent acidity, not fading a bit.

From Magnum. This is nicely mature and drinking really well from Mag. From 750ml this may be a bit more advanced. Color is golden yellow. Nose is ripe but shows nice lemon curd, baked bread and almonds. Palate cuts a deep swath and shows good delineation. Nice juice.

Baked pear, lemon vanilla custard, mineral, orange blossom, and oak on the nose. Palate seems lighter than expected, but alcohol has a strong presence. Residual sugar noted. A burnt almond note came out on the nose after some air.

From magnum. Perfumed nose with almonds, smoke, and some stone fruits. The palate has caramel, some butter, fresh apricots and a long soft finish. I like it.

Opened and not decanted and served somewhat chilled. Paired with dungeness crab for New Years Eve. From magnum. Honey and brown sugar notes; ends with a smooth finish with a little lift on the end. Good, but too sweet for my palate.

Stefania Tasting at The Backyard Bistro! (Bordentown, NJ) : Popped and poured this as the first wine of the afternoon with Paul and Stefania Romero of Stefania Wines. I had heard that she had liked this wine through Paul, so I took a ride up to offsite storage to grab one of these. This was actually the first time we had tried the '06 Sea Smoke chardonnay (that I can remember), so what a treat to drink this with special …

The color of pineapple juice. From a magnum, toasty oak on the nose. Clean, not buttery, but plenty of oak and vanilla to go with the tropical fruits, mostly pineapple. A clean citrus finish.

Rhone / Rhone Ranger night (Snohomish, WA) : Tasted from magnum. The nose had pear, apple and citrus aromas. The palate had green apple, pineapple, grapefruit and a little bread dough flavor. This wine had a big, round and slightly oily mouthfeel with a medium length finish. This was a very easy drinking chardonnay which was great because it was in a magnum format! A very fun starter wine.

From a magnum. Started out quite oaky but eventually opened up to show a little bit of tropical fruit. I expected perhaps a little bit of a heavier, weighty feel to it then what I got, which was a good thing. There's a pretty good influence of malolactic fermentation throughout the wine. Overall I enjoyed the wine but I feel like it will really need a decent amount of time to show well. There's a little left in the bottle …

"Anniversary" Weekend at Rob & Lisa's; 5/29/2009-6/1/2009 (Scott's Valley, CA) : From Magnum. Roasted nuts, butter and lemon zest on the nose on day one. Flavors are simple, yet zippy, with more citrus and lemon zest followed by butty oak out of the finish. As it took air, and on day two there was a nice integration of some tropical flowers and lemons into the aromas and flavors above, but it never really came together to blow me away. I …

Barrel tasting with winemaker Kris Curran and the assistant winemaker, Don. Quick notes: high acidity with touches of burnt brown sugar. Surprisingly open and drinkable.
