Very interesting nose with hints of ribena pastilles and/or blackcurrent fruittips (if that makes any sense). On the palate, black and blue fruits with further floral notes and just a sprinking of pepper on the finish. Silky smooth texture. Not a massively bold or rich wine but instead surprisingly lively. I believe this vineyard has a pretty cool climate and assuming I am right, the wine definitely displays that. High alcohol (15.4%); I got no burn but I did feel …

Really in a good place now. Smooth and lush with good black fruit, leather, licorice and pepper notes. Held up well to spicy ribs. This might be the sweet spot for this wine.

Great layered expression of Central Coast. Old world nose about it with notes of roast beef, blackberry, and spice. Fruit fading. Will not get better. Drink now.

perfect drinking window. As much northern rhone as california. Great depth of flavor with layers of complexity. Very nice.

Boy, this is good.. Well balanced. Lots of fruit. Smooth.. Not to much of a Shiraz thing going on but just enough to make you take notice and also know this isn't a cab! I love the winemaker!

Really good stuff. Just so delicately balanced and still great fruit. Got even better with an hour of air. Paul really knows how to make some great wines.

Decanted for an hour. This is still just a bit tight, but it has softened since I last tasted in 2008. The meat/pepper element is still there, but there is also a nice floral element present today. Nice - 92+ pts., and a touch of heat on the finish prevented it from getting a higher score.

Like the other Paul Lato wines I've had this is very well made and has an excellent mouthfeel. This Syrah has a strong nose and shows roasted meat, as well as flavors of coffee and dark fruits. Very nice. This definitely has the structure to age nicely and I believe it will improve when all of the flavors integrate. I'll hold the other bottle I have for a couple of years.
