A beauty. This has a viscous mouthfeel but no sign of heat. Lots of blackberry compote, currants and forest floor. A nice backbone of acidity keeps this perfectly balanced. Secondary development is just emerging and gives this nice complexity. A long lingering finish.

Still beautiful. Dark fruit on nose. Smooth, full bodied, chocolate, savory notes and brambles came to mind. No decant although probably will next time. Evolved in 30 min in glass to dark fruit, mild tannins and mild alcohol. Very balanced. Just plain delicious. I think it has several good years left.

Enjoyed this bottle at dinner with friends. Silky, full-bodied and refined. Opened in the glass throughout the meal. Oak made an appearance then seemed to retreat. Wonderful.

The nose is a black fruit bomb-blackberry, cassis, black cherry. I do not note any green notes on the nose. That palate is refined and elegant. Dominated by blackberry with a bit of cedar. The tannins are almost completely resolved and there is plenty of fruit and acidity to keep the party going for a few more years. Birthday party with delicious tomahawk steaks. Decided to have fun and open a bottle of the Staglin 2002 and of the 2007. In the past a number of years ago the 2002 was bomb (as my kids would say). Drank for Easter dinner after a few hours decant. The fruits have been replaced by chocolate, spice and forest tones. This has a medium/long finish. I believe this is nearing the end of its drinking window as some things are fading-- probably another year or two.

Gorgeous fruit. Very Napa. Definitely new world, but not artificially jammy and not cola from hyper extracted type techniques. Pure Napa fruit and elegance. Delicious now. Not sure it will get better but not past it�s prime. This may well be it�s prime drinking window.

S..m..o..o..t..h! and fabulous! Unfortunately my last bottle, but I can state now that this wine is fine for the next 2 - 3 years. Color, aroma, and flavors all came together. If you only have one bottle left, drink it now,because this is a wine you will truly enjoy.

Regular dinner group (@ JvT) : Concentrated bouquet with a lot of dark berries, licorice and some beautiful oak. Same on the palate; dark berries, licorice, juicy acidity and soft tannin with a lovely bite. Great wine. 95 � 96

Christmas day in OCNJ with the family. Bottles purchased direct at release, in my cellar since. Its been a few years, good excuse to check in on this. Improv decant, into a pitcher and rebottled. Open for about 30 minutes, drank over an hour. Medium garnet color. Nose showing dark cherry, cedar, cassis. Rich palate of blackberry, blue fruits, leather, herbs, garrigue. Layered, savory notes through the mid palate. Rich and elegant texture, fined tannins. Long finish. Really gorgeous wine …

Robust and big. Drank after a 1988 Beaulieu Georges de la Tour. The BV was delicate and refined (and 20 years older) in comparison.

Tremendous juice here. Opened and consumed over 2 hours. Elegant and dirty at the same time. Got some dirt/dust with lots of herbs. Rich, but balanced and never heavy or hot.

Pretty tasty but a little sweet and high in alchohol. It is very drinkable and slips right down. A little mint and berries on the nose. Kind of one-dimensional on the palate - mostly berry jam without particular nuances. Pleasant lingering taste.

My 4th and sadly last bottle. But it is time to drink these up as they are starting fade ever so little - losing a little punch on the front end. But the finish is still superb.

Decanted for 90 minutes. Enjoyed with a medium rare steak. Dark dark purple with berries, baking spice, and cedar wood on the nose like others have said. On the tongue the fruit is there, but fading. That was confounding as this should be a touch young (if anything). It was well rounded, though, with a wonderful balance. Finish was nice, but faded too soon. Christmas day wine along with Quivet Pellet, Becklyn, and Karl Lawrence To-Kalon. Past its prime but still interesting. Fruit has dissipated and the wine is driven by cedar and mineral notes. Would of loved to drink this 3-4 years ago.
