Charles Shaw, Chardonnay, California

Served at my mother's art reception. It was potable. The guests liked it well enough to have a second glass.

We simply use this for cooking

I used most of this for cooking. Had a glass of the remainder and dumped the rest down the drain. It is a drinkable wine actually. If I had to, I could drink it but I didn't so I 'Chucked' it. Very doctored flavor profile, similar to a Yellow Tail Chardonnay. Taste of cotton candy and bubble gum with no mid palate or finish. What do you expect for under $3 a bottle? ? It is what it is.

Very pale color Nose: Not very aromatic. notes of pear Palate: Flavorful and dynamic. Pear, vegetation, vanilla Clean finish 50, 3, 6, 14, 7 = 80 (Good)

Light, fruity, quite a refreshing white wine that is affordable.

Nothing just trying it

Consumed at room temp. Here's where I confess that I buy large quantities of Charles Shaw Chard and Sauvignon Blanc for cooking. I mean I have drank them before and generated tasting notes, but somewhere along the line I decided they were relegated to reduction. So here's to a re-evaluation. Nose - light pear, a touch perfumy. surprisingly it smells of chardonnay. some green apple and pear on its' simple nose. light bodied and tastes of nail polish which carries into the finish. a bit of acid and green fruits here too. this is a great bottle of wine for when you've drank way too much and decide it's a great idea to open yet another bottle. hooray for cheap booze!

Achieved highest rating possible for 2BC: goes down smooth. Not much on the nose. A little sweet and lacking acidity. But there's no butter or heavy handed oak. One of the better 2BC "cuvees."

Blind tasted this one with some other Californian Chardonnays. I used this one as a baseline due to its absolute average-ness. It kinda gave itself away due to that musky, sweaty nose that seems to be the foundation of all Charles Shaw wines. Simple, fruity, with sour finish. If you can't stand creamy American style Chardonnay, you might find liking this one more instead.

Not tasted blind this time, and by itself. Came across as a bit watered down and flat (which in the company of excessive butter is indeed refreshing like a cool glass of water). Still, it's nice and drinkable stuff. An inoffensive wine for $2 is good stuff.

Pretty amusing that the first reviewer compared this to Sauvignon Blanc. I tasted this blind in a flight of 6 Chardonnays ranging from $2 to $19 and this was my favorite precisely because it had a citrus-y, grassy nose like Sauvignon Blanc and had good acidity unlike other wines in its flight. Looks like sauv blanc. Smells like Sauv Blanc. Tastes like Sauvignon Blanc with additional Listerine and bitter citrus fruits. Oak and malolactic properties not to be found. No minerality, high acid, weak structure. More bitters on the finish, boring. (3+5+8+4) = 70
